I cant put one arm up behind my back
It is worse on waking but there all the time
Anyone know what it can be?

Sounds as though there is some nerve problem here. Maybe something is being trapped from the vertebrae area. However, consult your GP, health is precious, take care of yourself.

The most likely culprit is a charley horse. It is when a muscle in a particular part of the body (for you, it would be the arm), is overworked and dehydrated due to excessive exercise. The best thing for you to do is drink a glass of water before you go to bed. Also, try eating anything with potassium (bananas are a good source), the potassium will prevent cramping. When you wake up with an arm spasm, it may be a good idea to stretch it out; however, do not push it too far. This can hyper-extend the muscle and cause a second-degree tear. The best thing to do is massage it away and lightly stretch it. This will increase blood flow to the area which will help to release the muscle cramp.

Pain in the arm from shoulders down to fingers - one reason can be lack of circulation of blood - as you might be lying on one side for quiet a long time - but if this case do you also notice numbness all along the arm.
Also if you have an history of hypertension or cardio diseases, meet a cardiologist - he might look into your ECG report.
however what appears more Osteoarthritis has set in ( w.r.t to your age ) consult an orthopaedic.
This kind of symptoms are generally observed in osteoarthritis / rheumatism, so I would suggest meet a orthopaedic doctor ( not orthopaedic surgeon ) at the earliest.
Also avoid activities like lifting heavy articles.
one precaution - if it is along right hand ( assuming you are right handed) can be working at the computer for long hours. quit it immdly.

Enjoy life

Hey, it could be frozen shoulder - yes i know it sounds stupid but the condition does exist.

It mainly occurs in older women and men, i hasd it a few years ago. Feel like you cant lift anything with that arm thats heavy. You cant even put your coat on without it hurting.

See your doc and if it is this ask him for physio, they will show you exercises to help relieve the pain and take ibprofen to take the swelling in the arm down.

The reason it hurts more in the morning is because you obviously havent moved it all night and i understand yor pain cos thats when mine was worse too.

If physio does not work the try acupunture - that is meant to be very helpful.

Good luck. xxx

sounds like a possible lack of circulation. could be the way you are sleeping or could be some kind of pinched nerve or other bone or nerve problem causing poor circulation. a chiropractor might be a good start.
