Corporations are to blame here. Why are we not seeing legislation that addresses the illegality of corporations hiring these people, and for a mere 50 cents a day? You can't blame people for trying to make a better life for themselves even if it doesn't seem so to us. You can however, blame people who for 'provoke a rotweiler' by 'throwing red meat on the other side of the fence'. There is no other way to address this problem, regardless of what our intellectually challenged president says. I don't want to hear its about money, power, politics, etc. I just want to know why our politicians and the people who elect them are so stupid? This is not a rhetorical question, but an invitation for those who want to take responsibility for their's or their contemporaries' actions.

Illegals keep wages down.
Fat cats love it and politicians are in their back pockets.
The Eisenhower administration got the point.
They put a few people that were hiring illegals in jail, and fined others.
The jobs dried up, the illegals went home and the U.S. had the lowest incidence of illegal immigration in its history.
That trend continued until the Johnson administration changed the policy.
Note what policy isn't even being considered by our current representatives!
Learn from history!

I don't think the current law misses the point entirely. Yes it would be nice if current laws were enforced in their entirety (wait a minute....lets keep the lax enforcement of speed limits), Corporations that hire illegals would be fined steeply and the border would be secure. Honestly though...how would you go about removing 14 million illegals peacefully? No matter what or how you did it there would be a real fight to enforce it..granting full amnesty to all would only be rewarding them for breaking the law...not a good trend to set....trying to deport them would result in riots and people getting hurt...again not a good idea not to mention the sheer logistics and costs involved. So they came up with a teneble plan..that doesn't grant immediate amnesty, involves the legalization process and fines them for their crime...They could definitly do more...like doing away with the naturalization of children born to illegals, require public service centers and hospitals to obtain proof of citizenship and then deport after care is given...but what they have come up with is a bipartisan bill that if it is enforced actually does help. I for one do not believe that it will be..it is all political posturing...take "care" of the immediate problem without resolving the issue as the same thing was done in the 70's.

No I agree with you that you can't blame people for trying to come and seek a better way of life. But tell me if 4 homeless people got into your house and would not leave and slept in your children's beds and used their bedrooms and ate up some of the food for them and there was not enough to properly feed your children and they messed up your house and decided to open the doors and invite more homeless people into your house and make it more crowded and you had to send your children out to work to feed tall these peple would you not want to "evict" (deport) them out of your house?
So it is with a country. A country must first look out for the well being of its own citizens who were already here.
Our "elected" officials are not as stupid as you say. They are just following the orders of big business(corporations) who have given them money towards their election campaigns and to both political parties. They are fullfilling the wishes of big business by giving them an ever increasing supply of workers so that they do not have to pay a worker as much since there will be 100 people lined up ofr every job that a person gets fired from for asking for a better working wage.
Our politicians are not looking out for the interests of the voters who vote for them. voting is just a big sham because once the politician gets into office then they only do the bidding of the corporations.
Our politicians are just following the wishes of their constituents who are the businesses and corporations.
We can only solve the proplem by having a revolution and go back to what our founding fathers did in 1776 and declare independence form this govt and start a new one where the elected officials would be forced to work for us ("we the people"). In 1776 we dissolved the ties that bound us to King George The First who sat on the throne in London. We now have to dissolve the ties that bind us to King George the The Third who sits on the throne in Washington D.C. in 2007.
That is why the politicians have concocted these immigration laws which are going to give amnesty to lawbreakers, because it is precisely for money and power and the intersts of the big businesses.
Thank you for reading this comment and have a good day.

You can only "fire" an elected official, specifically a president if they have done something illegal or impeachable. First they must be impeached (which is hard to do unless it's a blatantly illegal offense) and then they must start proceedings to remove the official from office unless he or she resigns. However, I think for something like this, you'd have to blame police officials. The president has little power to actually do anything as far as upholding laws. Congress passes the laws; he signs them, then they are laws. However, these individuals cannot directly uphold them.

It's not that anyone is stupid, necessarily. When we elect someone, we have no idea to what extent they will fulfill their promises. We don't know how genuine they are until they are in office, so we have to hope for the best.
In the meantime, politicians are making a different set of promises to their sponsors - usually, large corporations who sponsor politicians to get help furthering their agenda. It takes their money and our votes to get there, but at the end of the day, it's easier for them to leave the voters hanging.

I think it's because all of our politicians are rich, some are very rich. Being such, they are out of touch with the American people. They don't encounter illegals moving into their neighborhoods or illegal's children going to school with their kids. It's a foriegn concept to them. As for the voters, they don't have alot of choices. Plus I think you could send the best intentioned person to Washington D.C. and they would be corrupted by the political process in Washington D.C. in no time.

I agree with you 100%. Corporations are to blame here. Have you heard of the Braceros program or the "Operation w**b***" program (sorry there, that's the name of the program)? I personally think we need to bring these two programs back. I recommend you google those two programs because there's plenty of info. These 2 programs can help the country by securing our borders and also having workers. The Braceros program lasted between 1942 and 1964 while "OW" was used during Eisenhower's presidency. I think we need these programs. Thanks!

It's more of the same ol' circle-jerk.
Everyone ignores the real cause of problems, and instead does what is best for corporate interests.
The only honest politician is one who stays bought once they are bought.

Hmm sounds like you are not wanting to take responsibility yourself. I would rethink your question and take some personal responsibility then maybe more people would actually take you seriously instead of someone who is crazy
