Pride comes before the fall.
So far, I haven't seen any worthy dem candidates. The few front runners seem to be extremely socialistic and touching on communistic. The American public isn't interested in that. If they don't come up with a strong candidate, they'll lose again just as they did before. They took control of the House but now everyone is unhappy with what their elected officials are doing. Or not doing.

Actually, I believe that the Democrats are very unsure about whether they will win the 2008 Presidential Election.
You see, elections where the incumbent is not running tend to me more wide open. President Bush obviously can't run again, and Dick Cheney is not even an option. Thus the Republicans are looking for someone new too.
I think that the Democrats are afraid that, even with an unpopular war, an unpopular president and a majority in congress, that they will lose this upcoming contest. I bet they think their chances are good - but still, if they lose this election, I think the general public will see the Democratic party as unable to garner fervent political support. Expect a huge demographic switch afterwards that will redefine the two political parties.
So in the short of it, yes, I think they believe they have a good chance - if they can pick a winner. Right now there are about 15 people running, and they will need to decide who should run in 08. And that is months away.

If things don't change drastically yes it does appear the Dems have it in the bag. But there is still plenty of time for the GOP to turn things around. I doubt they will but it could happen. If, in 6 months or so the GOP changes their focus and makes things change than that assessment will also change. We are not like neocons where once one has said something it is there forever and that new evidence or change in circumstances make no difference.

The way things look, yes. The president is losing support, not only from the few democrats that supported him but republicans are moving away from him too.
Unless republicans can come up with a competent, courageous, leader, I expect the Democrats will win in '08. It's early yet so don't count your chickens until they've hatched.

Anyone who thinks an election a year and a half away has already been decided is a moron.
Public opinion is against the current administration, which bodes well.
Of course, there's nothing really preventing the Republicans stealing the next one, like they did the last two.

If the RINOs vote this amnesty bill into law, the DEMs will have it in the bag! Probably for eternity since there will be 20 million new democrats.

Yes, they do!
They're not just counting their chickens before they've hatched - no, as far as the Democrat Party is concerned, the chickens have already hatched, laid eggs, and THOSE eggs are getting ready to hatch.
I just LOVE IT when morons get so far ahead of themselves!
What do you think that crowd is gonna be crying about when in '08 they lose the presidency yet AGAIN?!?

No doubt.
But all it will take is another few months of incompetent policy making at the White House.
Anyone other than a republican will win. Hell, even Ralph Nader could win today.
Bush has single handedly given the White House and Congress to the Democrats, for what little difference that will make.
