My best friend came over last night because we were throwing a dinner party. While she was getting ready she accidently left her curling iron on all night while it was laying on my white carpet in my room. Surprisingly my house didnt catch on fire but when she came back up and realized her mistake we found, not to my surprise, i pretty big orange burn mark on my carpet.

The carpet is fairly new and we are also trying to sell my house soon. So Im sure people arent going to be too pleased when they see a giant burn mark on the carpeting. Does anyone have any information on how to remove it or how to disquise it? The burn is basically in the middle of the room and it will be hardd to place anything over it without someone tripping and falling. Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Here is one way to take care of the problem. Find an area like inside of the closet where you can take a piece of the carpet out in about the size of the burn. Carefully cut out a square of the carpet from the closet and the burn marked carpet in exactly the same size to replace the piece you took from the closet. Use two sided carpet tape to adhere the squares into the spaces left where you cut out the pieces. Better to have the burn mark in the closet than in the middle of the room. Oh, use your fingers or a soft brush to blend the carpet fibers around the square you just replaced.

I would patch it. You can cut a piece of carpet out of one of the closet corners and replace the spot in the middle of the room. You can either stick the burned carpet in the closet to replace the missing piece there or just leave the empty spot, depending on how big it is. It should be pretty easy to do with a box cutter to cut the carpet out and some duct tape or other industrial stick tape. You may have to 'age' or scuff up the replacement spot if the carpet is older also. I have found thata hairbrush works pretty well for that and some scissors if you need to trim the edges of the patch.

Like another said, you could try a throw rug. But that won't hide the burn if you take it when you move out.

You might try a razor to carefully cut the burned part out- but it would be tedious.

Would it be possible to just plain remove the burned section of carpet and cut a piece of new to set back in the space?

Hello Ashley, Well all is not lost. First remove any scorched fibers remaining with a trimming knife or safety razor, to expose the backing beneath, Cut enough matching tufts to fill the hole from a place where it will not show, or a spare piece of carpet. Dab the bottom of the hole and the ends of the tufts with a suitable latex adhesive, then insert the tufts into the hole. Leave to dry, then trim if necessary and brush to blend with the pile. This should stop your worry.

If you have a scrap piece of the carpet, you can have a carpet layer cut out the burned area and patch it. They do a pretty good job disguising the patch. I had some carpet patched (spilled bleach on it) and it cost me about $100.

take a pair of scissors and trim it as much as you can without leaving an obvious hole.

Um, throw a rug over it?

Sorry, not much you can do.
