I looked at the book differently thatn the other responders. I thought besides that great look at how things are are taken for granted but a lot about how the right to choose is taken for granted and how powerful and painful knowledge and choice can be. We can affect a lot of lives with just one choice. I adored this book and hav read it many times. I think it is a great morality story and that it captures how much we as people have to appreciate and what we must be aware of. How do we know we dont live in a world similar to that of the "community".....
lol, I hope I helped!!

I adored that book, and is still on my list of favorite books. I read it in 8th grade, and it was the first book that I was assigned for school and really connected with. I read the entire thing in 2 days, which was unprecedented for me. It was the first of many works that opened my eyes to the rest of the world, to the possibilities of suffering and happiness and how absolute peace isn't necessarily the best choice.
The first time I ever cared about a character in a book was when Jonas watched his father Release one of the twins. I felt Jonas' horror. The Giver was my gateway book... the book that introduced me to the wonders of the written word.

Yes, I have read it and the other books that went with it- Gathering Blue and The Messenger. They are awesome... what I liked about The Giver was when he escaped.

i did not comprehend The Giver became into area of a trilogy (yet I even have study that e book), so i'm going to could desire to check out that. yet i think of in case you like the Giver, i could propose: Anthem by potential of Ayn Rand Fahrenheit 451 by potential of Ray Bradbury and doubtless A Wrinkle in Time by potential of Madeleine L'Engle all of them are dystopic novels, or A Wrinkle in Time is for the final a million/2 anyhow. in school some years in the past I study Anthem and The Giver and we had this huge undertaking with the two. they're very comparable yet nevertheless unique. i could certainly propose Anthem.

I both liked and disliked the ending. In this book, the ending was far better than being told what happened after. Usually, I do not like to infer things from books but this is one exception that I can make. I liked the structure of the society and I like that one person CAN make a difference. It shows that it is hard and difficult to change what has gone before and why it happened. It also shows that change is needed even if you, yourself, are lost in the process.
Awesome book!

I read it when I was in 4th grade. I didn't understand it at first, but when I was assigned it a couple years later. It is an awsome book because it really does show how we take for granted the things we have and the freedom we have.
