Aerobics and swimming are both good for the cardio vascular system and for muscle tone and strength. Both will help reduce stress levels.

Swimming works more of the body's muscle groups than land aerobics and is lower impact, thus it's easier on the joints. Swimming also includes anaerobic activity such as sprinting.

Both are aerobic activities so you will be burning calories either way.

Swimming is nice because it's a "no impact" activity and can be easy on the joints for people who have problems in that area.
