Well, the most common reason is obviously marriage. Immigrants will often "Americanize' their names to "fit in". Celebrities do it all the time for career reasons. John Wayne was born with the name Marion Morrison...it's hard for a man to be a star of cowboy and wars with a name like Marion. Sometimes parents just give wacky names that need to be changed.
