y^2 + 5y = 0

y^2 = 0 - 5y

y^2 = -5y (divide by y both sides)

y = -5

TO CHECK

(-5)^2 + 5(-5) = 0

25 - 25 = 0

y^2+5y=0
y(y+5)=0 (factoring the above)
This means y=0 or y+5=0
y+5=0 gives y=-5 (subtract 5 from both sides)
so y=0 or y=-5

2007-05-29 13:42:37 · answer #2 · answered by cidyah 7 · 0 0

y^2 + 5y = 0
y(y+5) = 0

So
y = 0 or y+5 = 0
y = 0 or -5

I cannot correct spelling of matematics.

I express the equation like this:
y2+5y=0
y(y+5)=0
The roots are: y= 0 ore y= -5
You can put in the numbers in the equation and control.

y (y+5) = 0

y =0 or y=-5

y = -5

always remember to check your answers against the original equation:D

y^2 + 5y = 0
y(y+5)=0
y=0 or y=-5

y^2 + 5y = 0
y * (y + 5) = 0
In that case or y=0, or y+5=0
So there are 2 answers:
1. y=0
2. y=-5

2007-05-29 13:41:58 · answer #7 · answered by grinww91 1 · 0 1

y^2 + 5y = 0
Therefore, y(y + 5) = 0
Therefore, y = 0 or y = -5

Hope this helps.
