That wiegh 112 pounds and are 25 years old
or 80 pounds, or anything under 120? I think that they are horrible role models, and more girls are going to want to be like them, so they're going anerexic. I think that if you wiegh under 120 pounds and are over 18 years old, and you are a model, you can't do runways, pictures, photo shoots until you gain at least 15 pounds. You won't be fat, you'll be healthy!

And are I dunno around 5 foot 10? 5 feet 6 and higher

OR like this yuck!

It's ok for people who can't help it. But like they eat and stuff, but the models eat, and then vomit, or don't eat, or everysingle time they feel like they're going to faint they eat a cheese cube

i think that it is disgusting. it's not even attractive or whatever if they think that. they look like walking sticks or skeleton bones. and it is definitely not a good role model for some people. it could cause people to have an eating disorder. I agree that a person shouldn't ba allowed to model if they underweight or too skinny.

I have yet to see a truly "fat" woman on a catwalk, except when it is intentionally a show of very fat women. The fashion industry doesn't sponsor those as far as I know. Healthy is the answer.... not appearance. Too skinny is just as dangerous as too thick. I've struggled with my weight ever since puberty and recently discovered that a diagnosis of PCOS accounts for much of it. I just started a medication that they say will balance my hormones, control my sugar, lower my cholesterol and bring down my blood pressure. Sounds like a miracle drug... and it's just a commonly prescribed diabetes medication called Glucophage. I'm praying that this works. I read some testimonies of patients who lost a lot of weight to the tune of about 10 lbs or so a month just by taking this.... people with PCOS I mean. If this works... a year from now I want to be 100 lbs thinner! Be open to people of all sizes, Dear. You sound like you can't handle someone who is overweight at all, and you have no idea what road that person has had to walk, the rejection they suffer from people like you, and the despair of ever being accepted or fitting in with anyone. Please..... be kind. Best Wishes, Sue

I do not understand why the models are to blame. Surely, rare people in real life look like this, and most of people out there are overweight. That is why an ideal shifted to someone underweight.
Instead of blaming models, it would have been better to make the nation healthier, educating people as to what to eat, and how much. If the majority of people would have been of normal weight, the ideal would not be that skinny.
Start eating healthy, and teach your children to do the same; then there will be no need to pose as ideal too thin people.
P.S. Ideal has exaggerated desirous features in any age and culture, that is why it is an ideal.

I hate those skinny models. And the designers too, that don't make anything over an 8! Like a size 8 borders on "fat". Those skinny models promote a lifestyle of eating disorders, smoking, and drug use.

What I do appreciate though are those new Dove commercials with REAL women. Like, they have curves and you can't see every bone in their ribcage. Now that's healthy.

I don't think your weight needs to go by your age. It should go by your height. I'm 25 years old and just under 120 pounds, but I'm only 5 feet tall. But I do agree with you.. if you're almost 6 feet tall and weighing the same, you need to put some meat on your bones! No one wants to look at a skeleton. Not to mention, it puts your health in serious danger.

Let em start off by saying that I dont' think that models should be encouraged to be so thin and I do think there is a problem in that industry that needs to be fixed. The picture you put a link to is an extreme and in my opinion, doesn't look very good. But, I don't think there should be limitations on models like that. We see underweight models as a problem because that's not the norm for us. If 90% of America was like that, it wouldn't be criticized as much. But if I sent an overweight model down the runway, it would be applauded. I think the decision on what models to use should be left to the people who are hiring them. As a designer, I wouldn't want people telling me who I can or can't hire based on what? Other people's opinions on what looks good or bad? Because really, as much as people like to bash models for being skinny, not all of them are unhealthy, no matter how thin they look. They shouldn't be penalized for being thin. If that is the case, then they should in turn ban overweight people from modeling as well because obesity is a HUGE problem in the USA and people die from the effects of that all the time.
Now, I'm not trying to argue that people have the right to be deathly thin, but there are both sides to consider. In my opinion, the decision should be left to the companies the models are representing if they want to hire them or not. Those companies should take responsibility for what image they project. But remember, it is not the job of companies to build our kids' self esteem or make them love their bodies. There will always be bad role models in the spotlight. Whether they are models, actors, singers, athletes, or whatever. Parents should be the ones to teach their kids at an early age what qualities to value.

It is a small minority that are naturally this thin but for the majority they are ill. The fashion industry should stand up and admit this is a problem instead of the excuse that the clothes look good.No they don't!!The models look almost dead and that isn't a good look .Pencil legs and arms are not attractive .These women need medical help not there photos taking.
I am under 120 pounds by the way but I am only 5 feet tall and that's perfectly natural.

I think you're right. It's disgusting that these 25 year old models look like that. People look up to them and they think that since they are twigs they need to look like that too. It's very disturbing. I have had several different times I've had to talk my friends into eating because they are who they are and they can't be anyone else no matter how hard they try. But yeah I totally agree with you.

I think that when some teenage girls see these skinny models they want to look just like them and don't think that it could hurt them. And some might be scared to put on weight. I think people should love their bodies no matter what their weight
