I'm going out for my friend's 21st birthday and was wondering if anyone had any ideas other than the obvious Policewoman, Nuese etc.

Wow! how long is a piece of string! lol! There are 100's of ideas, depends on how brave you are and your personality! Do a google search on fancy dress shops, you will get some pictures of costumes, which might give you some ideas. Will also depend on whether you want to make a DIY outfit or buy something! Search on ebay too, lots and lots on there, quite cheap too! French maid is good fun, there are the superheros, fun things with play on words, film characters, pantomime characters, characters from books.....take a look through your wardrobe and see what you have it may give you some ideas, shoes, boots and start from there! Suss out the second hand shops too! But if I was you, I would start with looking at the fancy dress shop websites, and seeing what tickles you fancy! If you get an idea you may be able to DIY it, or find it on ebay!

Hope you enjoy the party!

Audrey Hepburn or Marylin Monroe.

Audrey Hepburn - backcomb your hair or add a big quiff and section half back with a silver jeweled clip. Wear a black shift dress, a white pearl necklace, clear tights and black stilettos. Add black long gloves and hold a fake cigarette in your hand as a prop. Do your eyes big with fake long eyelashes, thick liquid eyeliner and smokey black eyes. For your lips try mac lipstick in hue - £10 or another light natural shade.

Marylin Monroe - use bright red lips, the famous white dress or formal pink gown. Add a beauty spot with eyeliner to the top corner of your lips. Backcomb your hair to add volume and curl the ends or buy a short blonde wig.

why not try being a cat? all you need is a black swimming costume/leotard, black skirt or black leggings/tights black shoes , some cat ears (can get them from claires) and some leopard print footless tights.... how to use the fottless tights.... use the waist (or top part ) as a belt ( cut a strip of it) use the ankle bits as gloves... cut the same length as arm to elbow and cut out a thumb hole (use elstic bands to hold up gloves) and use on of the theigh parts as a tail , tie at on end then fill with something like old tights, cotton wool etc then tie the other end and pin to belt and swim costume/ leotard and there you go you have the purrrfect outfit! oh and use black eye liner for nose and whiskars!!!

ooh, we do lots of dress-ups at work:
Pirates, cops and robbers, circus (clowns etc), film characters, animals, panto characters, kings and queens. Saw some people in local pub recently (students) dressed in neon green, yellow and orange - they were meant to be ravers I think. It must have been easy to spot each other in the clubs/bars dressed like that.

It depends how long you have to get it ready and what kind of thing you want to do

Sexy/Flirty - Cheerleader, Hooters Girl, Superhero, fairytale characters.

Funny - 'Fat' versions of the above (pad yourself out)

Retro - 60's or 70's for sexy, 80's for funny.
