They successfully renamed French Fries to Freedom Fries.

Also, they passed the do-not-call registry.

They also managed to increase the federal budget to numbers that would even make Ronnie Raygun blush.

Steve the Republicans controlled Congress for twelve years. They didn't do much except balance a budget one year. Which is more than can be said for the Democrats when they controlled Congress for forty years.

Pelosi made a big deal out of what she would get accomplished in the first 100 days.. She did get things through the House but they have died in the Senate.

Democrats have a limited window to really get something done for the WHOLE country or they may be back out on the streets.

While I agree that the spending circuit received an over abundance of use I would like to say that every one of you who are looking at this from a democrat (Liberal), Republican (Conservative) point of view are killing the country. There is no difference between the parties except at the kooky fringes and both parties have them (i mean kooky fringes).

The two party systems and the ignorance of the electorate (you and me) is destroying this Constitutional, Representative Republic.

We are so Republican Democrat that i believe Hitler could get elected if he claimed to be either.

We send the same people to Washington over and over and over again and wonder why the country continues to spin into the oblivion of once great nations.

I.e.
Nancy Pelosi has served 20 years since 1987
Orin Hatch has served 31 years since 1976
Robert C. Byrd has served 48 years since 1959
Edward M. Kennedy has served 44 years since 1962
John Macain has served 20 years since 1986
Sam Brownback has served 11 years since 1996
Duncan Hunter has served 26 years since 1981
Ron Paul has served 10 years siince 1997
Joe Biden has served 34 years since 1973
Hillary Clinton has served 6 years since 2001
Christopher Dodd has served 26 years since 1981
And so on and so on

It is we electing the same pea brain traitorous, hypocrites, power mongers over and over again.

If you want to effect real change in this country next election lets have a revolution.

Anyone with more than 6 years in office got to go bye bye.

Find a candidate that will look you in the eye and tell you I love America, I respect the constitution, I have actually read and understand my limits according to the constitution, and will abide by those limits.

Forget the party craps it is just that crap. Kick all the bums out!!!!!

properly, in accordance to the Dems, human beings gave them a "mandate" (which in liberal-talk potential carte blanche to do something you desire) after the November 2006 elections. They almost uniformly ran on a platform of "fixing" the situation in Iraq, which the overwhelming majority theory could be a good theory. while pressed approximately their plan and technique for the Iraq previous to and right this moment following the elections, the Dems stated they have been engaged on it. properly, as quickly as they finally stopped congratulating themselves and patting themselves on the returned (which became into around February sometime) for their extensive November wins, they finally unveiled their complicated and correctly theory out plan for Iraq......resign, supply up, bypass living house. thank you A Holes! Any 5th grader could have arise with THAT little gem! Thats what the yankee human beings get for putting their have faith in ANY politicians (Dem & Repub the two). as quickly as returned the yankee public is watching and getting screwed whilst Congress sends resign workplace work loaded with beef spending attachments for Presidential signature. Disgusting to declare the least. additionally, you're making point out of how the Republicans had administration of Congress for 11 years, and the Presidency for 6+ years. human beings the two ignore or do not look to comprehend that the Dems had administration of the two properties of Congress from 1933-40 5 and 1954-1994 and a Democratic President has been in workplace for 40 of the seventy 4 years overlaying 1933-2007. So why are not we residing in a Utopian paradise?

I have read most of these answers here and it seems to me that there are those who cite facts in their responses, those who cite public opinion polls and those who spew emotions with no facts at all.

The bottom line is that the facts speak for themselves. The republican congress did what was necessary after 9-11. Oh and by the way, a majority of the democrats did also. But then they lost their direction and began to cave to the massive media pressure for a more liberal approach to running the government. They did that because the president did not waiver in his stances and was reported by the media as being unpopular. While unpopular he was/is, a majority of the country approves of the general direction he has led the country. The republicans in congress read the polls instead of their constituents and were summarily voted out of office.

If republicans want control again, they will move back to where they were under Reagan, conservative and strong.

"The 109th Congress vies for the title of the all-time worst Congress," said Thomas Mann, a political analyst at the Brookings Institution and co-author of "The Broken Branch" with Ornstein. Mann's indictment of the 109th includes these charges: "It spent little time in session, it failed to pass budget resolutions and appropriations bills, there was no serious oversight of the disaster in Iraq, there were no major substantive policy achievements, and corrupt members were forced from Congress."

They:

1)lowered taxes
2)captured Saddam Hussein
3)killed many terrorists and leaders
4)strengthened economy

You won't get many honest answers because the majority of people jumped on the "I hate and Bush and all Republicans" band wagon.

Now sir, I ask YOU, what have the democrats done?? How many of their promises have they fulfilled??

They blindly supported the arrogance and incompetence of the Bush administration, helped them steal our civil liberties, confirmed Supreme Court justices who will "control" women's rights for the next 30 years, LIED, CHEATED, accepted bribes from lobbyists, etc, etc, etc.

Other than that.... They were fine.

Lowering taxes seems to be the consensus. But now our national debt is around $9 trillion.
They invaded Iraq. But now we have a blunder similar to Vietnam.
Good Job 109th Congress!!!! Kudos. *flaunts my middle finger to them all*

Other than being a rubber stamp for the Iraq war, rolling up the highest deficit in US history and rolling back civil liberties a la the Patriot Act, nothing.

Good question. They did a lot to get us involved in a war that over 70% of us don't believe in. They passed the PATRIOT Act, which protects the government in the event it should want to infringe on the average American citizen's freedoms.

Apart from that, I'm not really sure.
