Saddened to learn of his death, I gave a moment's pause to remember the great beloved TV and film performer Reilly was to American entertainment media.
His greatest career moments came during a highly conservative time, when openly gay people simply weren't warmly received; comming out of the closet usually meant a devastating end to your career in those days. Many actors of the time, like Dick York and Rock Hudson chose to keep their lifestyles a guarded secret.
Charles Nelson Reilly, on the other hand, didn't make much an effort to hide his exotic flair--which by the way was his trademark as an actor.
What's really interesting now is the entire Match Game panel is gone with Reilly's death. We will miss Charles Nelson Reilly.
