He has nothing to lose--except the near-future prospects of the GOP.
I haven't a clue as to why he is doing it. I have supported him for a long time and this slap in the face (that opponents to his bill "don't want to do what's right for America") has just about ended it.
There is dogged perserverence to an ideal, but this is just dumb. We've had an amnesty, twice before, and they didn't work. We've got laws already, and ignoring them is what got us into this mess with 10 percent of Mexico living in the US. What is one more law going to do?
Why is he doing it? I haven't a clue.

When Bush must choose between corporations vs either the religious right or xenophobes (both of which are manipulated at election time), he chooses corporations every time. Luckily for him, few issues force him to choose....but immigration is one of them (at least regarding xenophobes).

He just wants a cheap illegal immigrant labor pool to undermine the wages of American citizens.
This in turn will boost the stock prices of corporations.

No, he actually believes in it. I know it comes as a total shock but he's been very consistent regarding his position on immigration. Get used to it 'cause it gonna go away.
