Normally the "Insert" button (on a normal keyboard, the insert button can be found above the arrow keys) toggles the overwrite/insert mode.

There is a key on your keyboard (usually in the upper right) that says "Insert" in it. Press that key in most programs toggles you between "insert" and "overwrite".
If that does not work, list the program in which you are trying to do that change....

Hit the "Insert" button. It turns it on and off. ("Insert" is the opposite of "overwrite" on the computer.) Double clicking on OVR on your toolbar works too.
