when I turn it on it goes to the windows start up screen but then a blue screen comes up and it says: Stop c000026c
\SystemRoot\System32\Drivers\i8042prt.sys device driver could not be loaded, error status was 0xc0000221. I have tried to start it in every mode possible and it still wont start. I bought a windows xp operating system disk and it wont even read the disk. So basically I am wondering if this computer is even worth trying to fix and if so what can I do to fix it. Help Me PLEASE!

it will not boot from any drive and i do not have a windows 2000 disk, I bought the laptop from my brother in law and it just stopped booting. all i have is the windows xp disk. that i just bought cause i was told it would reformat the hard drive and i would be able to install it but it wont read the disk

It may be a defective hard drive, when you insert the XP disk make sure that it's booting from the CD rom drive

That is a problem with part of the registry. You should be able to fix it by either reinstalling Win2000 over the top (without formatting the disk) or by install Windows XP
You should be able to boot the computer with XP (or 2000) CD in the CD drive and have it do the install. You will want to run a "repair" install if you do Win 2000 or up update where you tell it not to change the files on the hard drive for an XP install.

well you are definately missing drivers.. and windows xp is normally on a dvd, so if you don't have the drivers installed for the dvd drive (must be internal other wise it wont work) you won't be able to load the disk. call local computer shops and they should be able to install the new operating system for you and probably only charge about 80.00. you can also have them test the hard drive if you are concerned about it. I have a bad hard drive on my lap top and I don't have a problem loading everytime I boot only occasionaly I get the blue screen of death.

did u try reinstalling windows 2000?
it sounds like a hardware/driver problem and does the system boot to the cd drive? you can check by getting into the bios menu on the start up

start it up in safemode, if it doesnt work, go to the retailer that you bought it from and check with themm, they should fix it for you becuase you where a purchasing patron of there store..

this site will give you a sony vaio laptop just for completing some quick online tasks! really recommend it, especially if you're broke but really want/need a laptop (like me).
