People with tattoos are wrongly assumed to be of a certain way. People look at me with my tats and assume that I ride a Harley, which couldn't be further from the truth. Not everyone that has tats is a biker or hard core, or a drug addict. People with tats have no more self esteem issues then people without tattoos. There are people with tats that are bikers....there are people with no tats that are crackheads. I got my tattoos as an artistic expression of myself. While I have seen some really bad tattoos, it's not my place to really judge the person based on that one small aspect of their whole being. There is so much more to a person then just if they decided to decorate their skin permenantly with ink or not.
People really should stop judging others based on physical traits, such as tattoos. You don't realize that you could be missing out on wonderful conversation with highly intelligent people because you have right away assumed you know it all about that person, because he/she has ink.

Personally, I think they are pretty trashy. I find you can go farther in life doing the complete opposite of the people in trailer parks.
Getting an tattoo is like getting a permanent mullet. What is in style now and cool, will change and not be cool in the future.
Eventually people with tatts will look like the dorks who are stuck in the 80s or 70s.
Plus visible tattoos can keep you from getting a good job in the future. Why limit your future opportunities for a silly fashion statement?
Sure...when you are young, have fun. Dress wild, be a punk or a "goth"..enjoy your life as a child. But remember, you will mature, your tastes will change and anything permanent you chose when you were young and dumb will still be there.
Think of it this way. When you were 4 years old. What if someone asked you to pick one TV show that you had to watch for the rest of your life. You would have picked something like Barney and wouldnt think twice about it. No adult could tell you that in the future you would think it was stupid. That is no different when you are 18 or 20....when you are 30, you are going to realize you were an idiot at 18 and you are going to like different things.
Age 41...ex punk rocker who did have a few tatts. Getting them removed was much more expensive and painful than getting them.

To be flawlessly sincere with you, the shpiel approximately employers getting pissed over tattoos is a little exaggerated. Unless you're employed in company America, it is truthfully now not that colossal of a deal. Now, relying at the tattoo (flashy colours, image, dimension), a few employers could ask you to hide it up. I are living in Texas, and think me, it could suck to ought to put on turtleneck shirts everyday. Tattoos are increasingly typical in society, so they are now not relatively "taboo" anymore. Employers are mainly going to recognize that, and until they are significantly anal, it should not be that colossal of a deal. Just hold in brain that it relatively will depend on what your task is. If you are a attorney, a health practitioner, a banker, and so forth., it is without doubt going to subject greater than should you paintings at WalMart or McDonalds. The greatest factor to recall is that so long as you are making a well first affect and the character hiring or using you likes your character, it could be whole foolishness on their aspect to disregard you readily for the reason that you will have a tattoo. Best of good fortune to you to your transfer!

I love tattoos and piercings done in good taste...too many are not my thing but I don't knock anyone with what ever they choose. I think those on here that view body art negatively are dull, conservative , judgmental, and close minded losers. There is nothing wrong with freedom of expression. Just because people aren't like you, doesn't make them trashy or stupid. I'm a 23 year old full time student with a great, corporate full time job and I have two tats (I want more) and three piercings.

If you have a really visible tatoo, and your going for a job interview, well it just doesn't send a wholesome image. It doesn't necessarily mean you won't get hired, but it makes you look a bit wild. esp. if it's a big and visible. I'm working in a pharmacy, and when we have to make a decision on whether to sell syringes, (it's at the pharmacists discression if person has no prescription) the person with a big obnoxious tattoo is less likely to be allowed to buy any. Now if it's under your shirt and for your girlfriend, then it's kind of sexy.

I'm 35 and don't have any tattoos. All I can think when I see people with all the ridiculous tattoos is that it will look pretty cool seeing them in their 60's with that guitar tat on their head.

Way over done. Seems to be a sign of poor self esteem. Has no idea why some beautiful woman wants to have a permanate decal applied to her body. I have seen a few well done tattoos but the vast majority of them are poor quality, in poor taste, and degrading to the person wearing them.

I'm 39, and I got my first tattoo when I was 17. I was going through my rocker goth stevie nicks faze and could have picked something horrible like my friend did, but picked something classy. I still like it even though it is faded.
I'm also glad I didn't go with the trend of the time and have it put on my breast like everyone else. Or like now adays everyone has the "tramp stamp". I think you will really regret it, if you follow a trend and not your heart.

would never have either a tattoo or jewelry piercing myself. when managing a book and video store and interviewing a prospective employee one of the questions asked was about tattoos and jewelry piercings. tattoos had to be covered and jewelry piercings had to be removed before taking the shift. we were running a business and as such had to make a presentable showing to the general public.

Tats are great. It's like personal advertisement, art. I wish they were accepted in a business setting. My wife has to cover her tats while working in an office.
