My thing is, you know what you're doing while you're having sex and there are ways to prevent pregnancy, so why have an abortion when something could have been done ahead of time. Take birth control, use a condom, or something. Anything but abortion.

Sometimes things happen. Birth control is never 100% effective, and believe it or not many people can't afford the pill. Many people aren't educated properly. Some people might use the "something else method" that doesn't work. While I too would prefer women considering abortions to visit all options first, I could never tell a woman what she can and cannot do with her body. In Brazil, where there are strict abortion laws, 4,000 women die per year from botched black market abortions. What's better having a baby that will have an impoverished live, or one that doesn't exist? What's better a 13 year old father, or a rapist? Both aren't going to be able to take care of the baby well. It's easy to use the moral high ground to justify controlling the bodies and lives of others, but be realistic. It isn't practical, or democratic, to tell people what they can and cannot do with their bodies, and doing so can be dangerous.

Methods have been known to fail, condoms have been known to slip off or break, pills have been forgotten. I've also heard of young men and women with strange ideas about safe periods and others who do not want to use birth control because it means they have 'planned' to have sex and they don't want to be thought of as so loose as to plan it.
I know that doesn't make sense, in fact its the most relevant fact in that they shouldn't have babies themselves yet.
Many of the people who are against abortion are also against birth control, some are against the pill or the morning after pill, some just seem to think that one should pay a price for having sex, and that price should be compulsory pregnancy and then giving up the baby.

alot i've people think that abortion is there only way out because they weren't ready for a child. i think that if you spread your legs you take responsibility for the action. there are people having baby's and they are barely old enough to be considered teenagers they are cases were 12 years having kids and keeping them raising them i think that if a 12 year can be responsible enough to take care of there baby then the ones that are older should stand up and be brave enough to take care of there actions and take responsibility for the life that is growing inside of them and if they really do not want the child or feel they are not ready there is always adoption there are wonderful people couples that try everything to have a child but can not so why not help them out and make there dream come true.
just to let the ones who say there not ready to be a mother and get an abortion. I'm 19 years old and 29 weeks pregnant not sure if I'm ready I'm truthfully scared to death about what will happen but I'm going to do the best that i can cause this baby is part of me a life a living soul and deserves a chance i would never get an abortion just because i wasn't ready if you want to spread your legs they you should be ready for the outcome if you so become pregnant. I've heard and seen people say that is takes a strong person to have an abortion well it takes even a stronger person to keep the child .

Sex is a normal everyday thing.... Birth control, condoms, diaphrams not working properly and rape are not ....but it does happen. My doctor told me a story about a girl he put on birth control and 2 months later she came back pregnant....I am 10 weeks pregnant and would have never had an abortion because I couldn`t push myself to do it... but alot of people have circumstances that will not allow them to care for a baby. Why would you bring a baby into the world if you cannot afford to care for yourself..? Why would you bring a baby into the world that will be paralyzed....or a vegetable???? To make the baby suffer??? There are reasons why abortion is allowed... People make their own decisions and there is nothing you can do about it. If you don`t agree with abortion then don`t ever do it.... but don`t judge others..... I`ve seen people smoking while pregnant, drinking, riding roller coasters... doing drugs risking their unborn babies life... but when someone chooses to terminate a pregnancy before a fetus has ever even witnessed real life.....even taken a breath of air...because they don`t want their child to suffer, they are wrong..???? How could you walk around for the rest of your life knowing your child is with another family??? Many people think that abortion is wrong because people are using it as a form of birth control.... but guess what having a baby and giving it away to a complete stranger is the same ****.

That's all well and good but you're suggesting the impossible. Women who get abortions KNOW they could have prevented the abortion ahead of time, but things happen that are beyond anyone's control. Why have an abortion? That's not a question anyone can answer correctly (although most people will be glad to throw in their two cents' worth of something they know nothing about).

Some people do the precautions, but condoms break, birth control fails if they are on antibiotics, alcohol etc. Sure there are all sorts of ways to prevent, but nothing is 100% unless the uterus is taken out and the man has a vesectomy (even that is not guaranteed 100%) Some people want children later in life so they don't get 'fixed' There is adoption but then there are some cases in which i certainly wouldn't want to carry a child. Such as rape, if the child is going to be born severely handicapped, disfigured. therefore costing the health care system more money to keep them 'comfortable' throughout their 'lives'. I am grateful for those who take on that challenge of caring for those, because I know I couldn't do it. Just to let you know one of my first cousins is serverly autistic and has some physical challenges but I wouldn't trade him for anything in the world.

exactly!!!

Kim F- I know plenty about it! I have a child that for a nano sec I thought about aborting( I was single). Then just the thought made me burst into tears. Every day I look at her and can't immagine my life with out her, and I don't want to know what it would be like. I found a good man and am married now and she has 2 brothers and another sibling on the way. So how dare you assume that anyone who leaves a comment knows nothing about the decisions, consequences and, most importantly, blessings.

"Why women have abortions?
1% of all abortions occur because of rape or incest; 6% of abortions occur because of potential health problems regarding either the mother or child, and 93% of all abortions occur for social reasons (i.e. the child is unwanted or inconvenient)."

Amen. When you make a choice to have sex, whether you use protection or not, you should also take responsibility for understanding that having sex can create a new life!! Even if you don't intend to get pregnant, it isn't fair to indulge in sex and then refuse to take responsibility if your actions result in a pregnancy. If you are old enough to do the deed, then you are also old enough to understand that you might get pregnant (or get someone pregnant) if you choose to have sex. People should be held accountable for their actions.

The really sad part, in my opinion, is that there are a ton of loving couples out there who would love to adopt a baby, because they can't have children of their own. But there are few babies available to adopt, because we are killing them with abortions. I think that is tragic.

I agree. But in today's society, talking about birth control is often taboo. We need to change the system so kids are taught birth control very young. There is no shame in our biology....and abstinence can still be included in sex-ed as the ultimate means of avoiding pregnancy and STDs.

Exactly.
And if you check the abortion stats, almost 50% of women getting an abortion aren't having their first abortion.
And very few are under 18. And the number of abortions due to rape or incest are a small percentage.
