Let us say that the universe contains only two pieces of matter, a space ship as a whole, and you in it! There are no planets and no galaxies. The universe is an empty void with not a single atom in it. You are free to travel in any direction.

What SPEED will you choose?

Speed would make no sense. There's no way to measure any such thing

The only velocity possible would be you moving away (or later, towards) the space ship. If you and the ship are moving at the same rate then it is the same as not moving at all. Velocity is relative, and the only thing in the universe that provides a reference point to you is the ship. But, more to the point, if there was nothing in the universe then why would you need to move? One spot is exactly like all the others. You have nowhere to go, and it doesn't matter how fast you get there.

You would have to come up with a new measurement for speed. There would be no way to gauge how fast you were going except for using the length of your space ship. You could choose 10 space ship lengths per minute?

First you have to choose a reference frame for your coordinate system. I'd choose the spaceship, because it's the only suitable reference around.

I'd want my speed to be pretty low (in that frame) so I didn't go banging into the walls of the ship.

Would you notice any difference if travelling close to known speed of light, c, or slowly like 1m/s? Don't think there is much point in question, but just for sake of it, I'd travel fast - but you would have nothing to judge relative speed, so it how would it appear?!

Bigsky_5 said it best, I think. Without atoms, there would be no form of energy; without photons, there would be no light or time. Nothing would exists or, if it did, it wouldn't move. Thus, you and the spaceship wouldn't go anywhere because there would be no such thing as speed.

it would not matter how fast because you are in an empty void so no matter what you would therotically be in the same place.
