I personally don't, but I can explain why. Sinse its orgin it has touched on things people do not want to talk about. War, death, violence, nuclear annhilation are all topics predominant in this genre. People see the lyrics and the costumes, the album covers, the stage show, and see it all as evil and wrong. Marilyn Manson burning Bibles and sacrifising animals on Satan's alter during shows is obviouslly against the Christian majority. They see this and though they have killed millions they must not blame themselves for the problems in the world but use a scapegoat. Heavy metal is that scapegoat. Marilyn Manson was blamed for Columbine though Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris did not listen to his music. The lyrics are violent and some are basked in satanism that when a child who listens to this music commits this suicide it is easier to blame the music than the irresponsible parents, the christain majority who has cause so many wars, or the news media that glorifies crime. Because if we blame those we must admit to not being perfect. We watch the news and most of us are christians as well as parents. Black Sabbath began with satanic overtones. and many other heavy metal bands have followed. And of course satanism, witchcraft, and magik are viewed as wrong. That is why heavy is assumed to be bad. Because it serves as a scapegoat for society's problems.

I used to listen to a lot of hard rock and heavy metal when I was younger. As I've gotten older I have lost interest. Mostly due to the fact that the lyrics are often negative and/or aggressive. By aggressive, I mean promoting violence.

I was young once and had a lot of aggression, so I guess that is why I liked it back then. But now, I just try to get along with people, so I don't have a lot of use for negativity and aggression.

I don't know anyone who does personally. The mass public, young people in particular, are very opinionated and like to be clicky with things they are into and harshly anti things they aren't. I've seen posts on here saying "why are people who like rap less intelligent?" I mean, people are overly judgemental about things they don't like. For every person who says that about metal and rock there is someone who is doing it about rap. Other genres get it too, but those are the two heavy hitters so opinions are harsher and more available.

To sum all of the main reason I think it is, it's because people stereotype based on what people look like, and a lot of people that are in the rock or metal genre tend to wear more black than others, and so people assume that there's something wrong with them and that they're bad or Satanic or something like that.

Rock n' roll--in all it's genres--were hard hit scapegoats of ultra-religious fanatics from the late '40's through the 70's and 80's. For the forty years of rock history: the music was blamed for brainwashing the minds of teens, drawing them into carefree lives of over indulgent casual drug use, wild free sex and personal ruin, sowing the seeds of anti-American sentiments--affecting these young impressionable minds by the millions.

The "Religious Right" fretted out every scapegoat angle to defame rock n' roll. Analyzing lyrics to technical explanations, like 'backmasking', to using scare tatic urban legend and innuendo--these people couldn't badmouth rock n' roll enough. Funny how their tireless efforts harbored and grew teenage rebellion and love for rock n' roll.

Rock n' roll's offshoots--Alternative, Grunge and Rap--well deserve bashing. Interesting how folks don't keep trying to bash such lame music forms today.

Because there have been bands that sing BS to satan and make bad things look like good things, like renegades. However there is really good Rock music that is timeless and even rock bands like U2 that and many others that sing to help make a difference in the world with songs that have a special minning.

Cause way back when it first started, it scared the older folks with its noise and lyrics.
Some found that there were lyrics with references to Satan, and other evil things, such as killing and sex. And others just read something into nothing. There was always rumors around that certain heavy metal bands and their leaders were satan worshipers, and that it would influence others to do the same.
As old as I am, I enjoy the occasional heavy metal song, and I am a christian, so I know it hasn't influenced me to commit crimes or worship satan.

In a word, "Slayer"!
They are among several bands that use Satanic imagery to sell themselves. King Diamond also comes to mind.
Of course, U2 would be the complete opposite - they mention God or Jesus in a handful of songs.

It's not bad. Neither is Country, Pop, Classical, Opera, Rap, Jazz, Blues or Punk. What's bad is close mindedness.
