Actually, what you will just see in my network places are shared folders/file across the network or the recent folder/file you've accessed across the network

make sure they are all in the SAME "workgroup"

control panel, system, "computer name" tab.
the workgroup name is shown here, change it by clicking "change"

do you have
client for microsoft networks,
file and print sharing,
and tcp/ip all installed for the network cards on all computers?

oh, I think you also need to go to the computers you want access to
and choose the files, folders, or drives that you want to have access to and right click on them and choose
"sharing and security"
click the blue text that says
"if you understand the risk but still want..... blah blah blah"

then check the box that says "share this folder on the network"
then name it what you want.

ta da

return to network places and they should be there. (it takes some time for slower machines to list the shared files, but not too long, less than 1 minute)

make sure they have the same workgroup name as suggested.

try clicking on the view my workgroup computers in tasks.. it should display your connected pc's

the other reason this might not work is firewall's

Try it with your fire wall on both pc's turned off..

If it works then that means a rule needs to be set up in your firewalls...

i manually add the whole ip range as trusted in Zone alarm

internal ip range: 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.1.254

if you are all in the same workgroup you should be able to see the other computers shared folders, assuming those computers are turned on
