I don't understand why Michigan has one of the highest gas rates in the nation? My question is: why does Michigan have one of the highest gas rate in the nation?

It is probably a result of local boutique fuels. These are fuels that are refined to meet regional specifications. Much of the nation uses the federal requirements for fuel, but certain areas have higher standards. Naturally, these higher standards cost more to meet and the people in those areas have to pay for it at the pump. Souteast Michigan is one of these areas. If you live in that part of the state, this may be your answer.

If you go to page 7 of the following site, it will list the areas that use boutique fuel.

Check and see how much of it goes to taxes. Michigan is known for higher taxes, and if I were taking a multiple choice test, that is what I would pick.

Being far from refineries does not help either.

Because of George Bush. He's not doing his job right and we haft to pay extra for the USA. That's something that he should be doing. Read what's under the picture on the website.
