Emo started in the 90's as the punk movement was becomeing mainstreem. It is an off shoot of punk, they dress similar to the punk kids in the mid80's and 90's but they lissten to whiney, emotional punk. emo is emotional music that sounds alot like punk except with all of the hard edges sanded down. basicaly the took all of the things that were punk and dumbed them down to a pre teen level. Emo is punk gone pussy.

Emo is short for emotional. In music Emo Groups are groups like the Smiths, Marylin Manson, Nine inch Nails.
Emo boys and girls always have long hair cuts with bangs in their eyes. They wear dark clothes, long coats and usually paint their finger nails.
