In my mid 30's I dont know many of my generation or older that DIDN't get spanked (at home or paddled in school) when we were growing up. Are people just sayin that like they claim to recycle? I ask bcuz If spanking is SOOOO bad, why is this "untouched" generation so out of control?. I see now that kids provoke teachers to lose it and tape it on their cellphones.(pretty lame)

I think they should go back to giving an old fashioned spankings. Children are taking full advantage of the new system. And it didn't really stop abuse because those who abuse their children are still doing so.

I am have mixed feelings with spankings..I am a mother of 3 and my 3 year old daughter is one of those kids that run through the store like little a@@holes and one person put it I believe but it is NOT from not spanking. She has emotional problems from whatching her father beat her stepmom. So you can't spank her. I think spankings are good for sever punishment. The thing I see is that the kid gets spanked for anything. Things were different when I was growning up. I got spanked once in a while but where the problem lies I think is with society. Parents seem to busy to know what there kids are doing and they do not instill respect in the kids anymore. My other 2 kids are well behaved, yes mam'm yes sir. They 6 and 11 put rather be spanked and get it over with then to have no bike, no outside time or no friends over for a week. I am not against spanking. Just feel it depends on the kid...

hehe,
I was spanked when I was little. I'm not sure, maybe some of them are lying, but probably not most.

I know most people won't agree with me but sometimes I wonder if some kids are much naughtier than others. So maybe some of the people who say kids don't need to be spanked are the more gentle people who tend to have better children who don't need to be spanked
(and the ones who don't care and let their kids run riot).
Is there anyone else answering who has really really naughty children and doesn't spank them? What do you do?

From memory I don't think spanking worked well, since sometimes it was unfair. I think shutting me in my room worked better actually.
Also, making me apologise to my mum, and to my brother, was a good thing to do.
I don't see any harm in spanking my kids, but it has to be fair. My Mum always spanked me when she was angry. I don't think that was good. Since I didn't learn anything except about how to deal diplomatically with people when they're angry.

No I don't think most of them are lying but some must be. I think that the laws that have been trying to protect kids have made it harder to control them. Most of my friends had a healthy fear of their parents, who most certainly were not trying to be their child's friend. We also had a healthy fear and respect for all adults. It was just as bad to be caught by the neighbor doing something wrong as it was by your own parent. Parents also believed other adults too and did not take up for their lying kids.

The real answer is to discipline your kids while they are young and impressionable. Spank young and you won't have to spank when they get older, besides spanking is only when reason does not apply. You're tactics should change as kids get older to whatever is more age appropriate. What works at 2 won't work at 10.

No they aren't lying they really don't spank their kids. In turn the kids end up running the parents life by throwing big hissy fits out in the public which is embarrassing on the parent's part and shows that whatever method outside of spanking they're using for raising kid's is instead turning the child into an out of control brat who's an embarrassment to and will never have any respect for his/her parents or authority. Spanking only really works when they are younger, and not all kids need spankings. Just those out of control brats that I often see in public places.

I think most of them are probably telling the truth. I dont spank my child and never did and he is a very good boy. He's 13 now and has a great sense of injustice. He received discipline without my having to resort to corporal punishment and he turned out fine. The problem with a lot of parents is that they dont discipline their children at all and that is why so many of the kids nowadays are so ill mannered.

Personally, I think they're telling the truth. I surmise that b/c every time I'm in a restaurant or grocery store, there are always some horrible kids running around and acting like a bunch of disrespectful little @$$holes. If they were spanked or paddled, they wouldn't act like that.

Asides from the law and the media getting their panties in a knot over spanking, we also have the indigo children issue... Parents, I know we all want to feel like our child is special, but if your kid has discipline issues, it may not necesarily mean they are indigo, just that they are not being well educated...

I fully believe people when they say they dont spank. Its a whole different way of disciplining children.

Now does it work? I have no idea.
