I know what to do. I know how to do it. Why can't I get past the part where I actually am doing something about it?

Please no, "just Do It" answers. I am trying to understand myself and why I am not doing what I feel I really want. But not doing it?

Does anyone else know where I am coming from or felt this too?

Welcome to the club. Even Paul wrote in his epistles "for I do the very thing I do not want to do....for if I do that which I do not want to do, and cannot do that which I want, then it is not I but it must be sin which has made a home in me...wretched man that I am, who will save me?"

You are born with a nature that wars against your true self. Some people just go with it, never stopping to reflect on their life. Boats without rudders. Carried away by every worldy wind or current.

The answer lies in becoming objective to yourself. This part of you that becomes objective is the real you. At every opportunity you must step aside from the not you, let it subside, and then move out of a new way that you know is right. It is a way of life that you grow and cultivate until you reach a point of transcendence and can say goodbye to bad rubbish (the wrong you).

You really should be more expecific.

I'm not sure if i understood this correctly, but it sounds that you sometimes want to do things and you know how to, you're actually ready to jump in and do it, but something stops you, mostly fear.

Let's say you're in the top of a bridge and you want to go bungee jumping. You're wearing all the cables and stuffs that are needed to do this, you step up, and then look down, you can not even move, and even though you're just one step ahead of doing what you wanted to do, your fears take over, and you don't do it.

A good thing is to exercise your will power, that power that gives you the strenght to push yourself and do things even though you're scared.

Try to get habits, and see the results [pick something that would make a positive reinforcement] so in the future you will remember that you did stuffs and you got good things. You'll feel more secure about making choices even though you might still get a little bit scared.

The times when I knew what to do and how to do it but did not take action were mainly due to a few reasons:

1. Fear

2. Laziness

3. Procrastination

4. Waiting for the right time and circumstances to take action

5. Pride

Finally when I decide to take action, it came too late and I regretted it and hated myself for it.

So now when faced with situations where I feel I have sufficient knowledge to do something about it, I do it quickly and feel good after that.

Inertia:
1. inertness, especially with regard to effort, motion, action, and the like; inactivity; sluggishness.
2. Physics. a. the property of matter by which it retains its state of rest or its velocity along a straight line so long as it is not acted upon by an external force.
b. an analogous property of a force: electric inertia.

in·er·tial, adjective
Synonyms 1. torpor, inaction, laziness.

This definition is what you are experiencing: It is easier to keep doing what you are doing than to start something new unless driven to act by some external force.

self confidence.. you have enough to admit that change is needed.. but you lack the last little bit it takes to get over the hump.. start by changing something small.. once your "nature" realizes what your brain already knows.. that it's easy and you can do it.. then it will all start falling into place.

It would be really helpful if you could explain what new nature you wish to take on, perhaps others would like to join you and we could all go together?
