Trying to make films from the Harry Potter Books is, as an on-line friend of mine put it, like playing Beethoven's moonlight sonata on a kazoo.

So normally, I would recommend that you read the book first or even just stick to the books and not bother with the films at all.

But Order of the Phoenix is the duff entry in the series (every series has one). So in this case I would suggest you see the film first as it should have cut out most of the boring bits.

From experience I would say watch the film first. The book always contains more, so there is always something new to get from the book. But if you read the book first you get bored with the film because you know what's gonna happen.

Also If you read the book first you tend to get ideas in your head that may be different than what they actually do in the film like scenery and people. Then you are just dissapointed with the film.

I personally believe that the Harry Potter books are soooooooooooo much better than the movies!!! I can't wait until the 5th movie comes out, but I feel like the books give more detail!! I think that you should read the book first and then watch the movie. I love all of the Harry Potter books and Movies.

i advice you to read the book first. it has way more details and information that they won't show you and tell you in the movie. there skipping out on a big scene that i think you need to know about before the move comes out. i personaly don't think that you'll be very intrested in reading the book once you've already seen the movie. its just not the same though.

i personally didn't like the book that much, it wasn't the best in my opinion, but it is a great book. yes, you should read the book before the movie comes out. it will help alot if you don't understand anything.

good luck
and have a great day!!

Like most everyone before me, I say read the book. I know that many things from the book will not be in the movie, and that hasn't hurt any of the movies before, but I'm always glad that I've read the books before. I need to read OotP again (5th time) before July 13th as well!

I finished it the same day. I was addicted. I recommend reading it first. if you read gof and saw the movie, did you notice how they didn't mention Ludo Bagman in the movie? Or all the chaos for Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes, or something like that, for their gambling at the World Cup? And the third one. Harry didn't get the Firebolt at the end of the book like in the movie. There was all this suspense, and a fight between hermoine against Harry and Ron...the list can go on and on...

Read the book. Always read the book first. The movies are a lot of fun, but the books give you a much better idea of what's going on.

I'd recommend that you read the book first as the film versions tend to leave some of the details out. These books are fab!!
