Economics 101. Supply and Demand determine price.

Liberals refuse to allow the supply to rise since they will not open the Alaskan oil fields or allow new refineries to be built. India and China use more oil every day as they are growing economies so demand is increasing. People drive more in the summer so demand is increasing. The federal government takes 18.4 cents per gallon and state governments take between 18 and 60 cents (average is 46 cents) per gallon.

So if you are really sick of the prices go nag the Liberals to open the oil fields and allow new refineries. You can also ask the federal and state governments to cut gasoline and oil taxes.

Thats the deal dude.

I kind of like a comment I heard on the radio the other day where someone in Washington was going to try and get the big oil companies broken up in the same way the phone company was forces to break up back in the 80's. Blow their monopoly apart.

If the government ran our refineries would we be better off? I

Josh you are a frigging idiot. We don't live anywhere else. We don't use 10x more anything. The oil companies slowed down refineries to create a shortage. You telling me that we are using twice as much gas as when it was 1.50 a gallon? Are you also saying that at 3.00 plus a gallon that people are driving more? Then explain to all of us dumbasses the record profits. You are the one that needs kicked in the head.

I am too. I find it amusing that each year around this time, the gas prices go way up due to some shortage threat. Give me a break! We all kknow that it's because the biggest travel season of the year is here! Not to mention hurricane season.

Something should be done about this......

Very little can be done except try to get our elected officials to stop this illegal alien amnesty. It will add tens of millions more citizens (up to 100 million more through doubling of immigration and daisy chaining those given amensty).

This will only add more pressure to limitied resources. We can't afford higher gas prices, higher home heating bills, higher taxes for schools, higher housing.

Quit yer bitchin...the rest of the world pays 2x as much as we do...If you don't like it go find someone driving a Hummer or an Escalade and kick in their heads....its all about supply and demand...we demand 10x more because we use 10x more and therefore the prices keep going up...The only thing saving us is the fact that we have trade embargos set up with every country we get oil from.

It sucks. I count myself lucky to have my garden, I can offset food prices somewhat. I know some people struggling, they might be looking at bankruptcy.
