Think about it. Since 2001, just about everything that comes out is a sequel, or a prequel, or a re-make, or based on something like a comic book, old TV show, or video game. Hardly anything original comes out anymore. And most of these movies aren't any good, they just slap some lame story together just for the sake of getting the movie out there because they know people will go see it. Where is the creativity?

Very true. I agree with the sentiment. I think the reason is because costs have gotten out of control, and they (the studios) are only willing to sink money into things that they KNOW are going to sell. Tried and true brands. Sequels. Remakes. Old TV shows. Video Games.
No one is willing to take a chance on anything new and creative. You'll have to look to YouTube and similar places for creativity.

Oh, you're just being glib.
Studios do invest in projects that have a proven track record but there are plenty of independent movies that are very creative and edgy...you just won't see them at the cineplex.
If you're serious about seeing the "other" movies out there, work for it and find them. Read articles so you know which you may like. Also, try film festivals...just about every city has them now, if not, start your own!

Ever heard the saying there are only 7 original stories in Hollywood...?
Don't forget it's easier to re-tell an old story with existing fans. Also easier to sell a story/script to a studio if your audience is built in.
Indie films, my friend, original stories and characters...

I have no situation with sequels as long as they are nicely made, yet you're terrific. The creativity and the writing has relatively suffered, the two interior the flicks and on television. additionally, i think of we've a techniques too few relatively solid actors at the instant. and you comprehend, i'm no longer so particular that the customary public is to blame this time. oftentimes the studios say that they produce what's going to appeal to the customary public, yet maximum of those new videos are finished bombs.

You're right. It seems like Hollywood likes to take as few chances as possible. Just in it for quick buck no interest in art, originality, creativity. Proven stars only, they probably use polls to determine what their movies should be about. Can't stand it.

Actually I think things are better than the 1980s to mid 1990s.
There are now more blockbusters with a story and believable characters.

i'm not as negative as you, all kinds of cool movies came out ever since 2001, a lot of films were awful, but a handful that come out each year are really cool.

You are assuming Hollywood (and its "stars") had any credibility to begin with?
