Only about 10% break on their own. The rest are broken in the hospital.

Its common to have someone break your water in the hospital. Only a small percentage of women have their water break naturally. Most times Doctors will break your water while you're in labor to speed up labor.

A tiny percentage of woman have their babies born with the water bag still in place! Ive seen photos.

All three of my children's bags of water were broken in the hospital while I was in labor. I stalled out at 4 cm with each of them so my water was broken then and from there my body would kick back into gear.
From what I hear, it's not a pleasant experience anywhere else. Dealing with the 'mess' and all. So I guess I'm not really missing anything ;-)

My water didn't break... I got to the hospital at 8cm and they had to break my water, then I was a 10 and ready to push. Same thing with my mother...4 kids and she had to have her water broken at the hospital with all of them. It is quite common!

Most of the time your water will break in the hospital, or they will break it for you. In my case, my water broke on it's own and that's what started labor, but my doctor said this only happens in 20% of cases.

I don't know how common it is but I can tell you my experience.
With both pregnancies my water broke, but not broke in the sense that it gushed out of me. If I moved I would have the sensation almost like I was dribbling. It was my water.
Unfortunately because of this though both times I was given an IV drip because the doctor was concerned about a dry birth.

I have had three children. My water broke before labor with my first, but had to be broken at the hospital with my second and third.

This seems to be occurring more often. With all three of my pregnancies I had to have my water break. I was informed from the doctor that once it has to be done, it will always be done.

It is actually nice, you can wait longer to go to the hospital.

Good luck.

My water broke naturally only once out of 4 deliveries.
And it was the second pregnancy..
Awfully messy too! Huge gushes everywhere.. I didn't realise the water replenishes itself continuously.. so the whole 30 hour labour was a real mess.
