The one move that can set the Yankees straight is firing GM Brian Cashman, and replacing him with Gene "Stick" Michael. This would put the best GM of all time back in the driver's seat of the NY Yankees. He would AT LEAST get the Yanks the wild card this season, and set them on a pace to win another 12 diivision titles starting next season. This is the guy who drafted Bernie, Derek, Andy, Jorge and Mariano. He also traded for O'Neil. STICK is the first move.

To turn the season around, the Yankees have to wheel and deal for some more starting pitching. They have dug themselves in quite a hole with aging pitchers and Clemens does not help matters. To catch up to the BoSox, they need to trade for a stud pitcher to add to the rotation. Even if they do go out and get a quality young arm, thye still probably won't make the playoffs.

I'm a die hard Yankee fan, have been for as long as I remember but this team is a mess from top to bottom... In my opinion they need to get rid of Cashman, he's the genious bringing in all this waste of roster space and money (Kevin Brown, Pavano, so on...) Notice when they Yankees were so dominant they had key players. People like Paul O'neil, Luis Sojo no Studs that would have to change the outcome of the game every play. So Cashman needs to go 1st then start at the pitching Staff. All these people need to go:
Farnsworth, Proctor, Pavano, Mussina. I guess those would be the big names. Also they need to move Riveria to a setup man cause he's just about done... I really like Brian Bruney, they need to consider tailoring him to be the new closer.
As for the offense this is who needs to go:
Giambi - I love power hitters but not who hit .250 and his steriod issue is becoming a problem again
Damon - he's a Red Sox, and he's old with no arm and constantly has some nagging injury
Abreu - It's great he's patient at the plate but he isn't that great of a player and I personally don't like him..
Yankees need to stop trying to buy themselves a world series and EARN one. Let there young guns learn to play in the pros and let the already established stars earn there pay. It's great to see there payroll finally down, but that will only be until Johan becomes a free agent cause Yanks are gonna offer a ton on him..
I really can't see them turning this season around, they have to many pitching problems and we have seen in the past pitching can get you to the series.
One thing I can say is Joe Torre should not be fired, anyone with his resume would be hired by every other team, he just got really screwed this year with all the injuries.

Nothing. The Yankees suck. They need to fire Torre and trade ARod to make this decline last longer.
What hurts the Yankees? Pitching. They have a great offense. But, if the pitchers give up too many runs, then few offenses can make up for it. Look at the Cleveland Indians of the 80's. They always were near the top of the league in hitting, but their pitching was awful which kept them at the bottom of the league standings.

Win more games. LOL Just kidding, I think the real problem is their pitching right now. Even after injuries, their starting rotation will be good, but have very little depth in their bullpen. Once the starters are done after 6 or 7 innings, they can still lose the game. Also, they don't have much of a farm system where they have been able to call up younger players to help out. It seems like they have a good line up, but as a team they aren't performing. Maybe they need one big thing to happen, wake them up, and realize they can win, and start playing better. . .It's a long season, so we'll see.

I don't think they should do anything. I think most people are happy where the Yankees are in the standings just fine.
Eventually, they may realize just because they can spend the money, doesn't mean they should.
Perhaps fans will stop believing they have some sort of right to win the world series.

Roger Clemens is a drip, a jerk, a washed up pitcher. He gave up 3 runs to the lowly Pirates and then basically pitched SIX innings. he's basically too old and has no stamina left. he isn't the savior of the Yankees who won't make the playoffs this twelve months. Chow!!

This is a lost season for them. They cannot turn it around and become winners with that pathetic pitching staff. Therefore, my suggestion is that they unload some of their over paid prima donnas and trade for good minor league prospects, start rebuilding, and trade if possible for front line pitchers. They won't, though. Not enough brains in that organization to figure it out.

-Put Johnn Damon on the DL for 15...he's hurt
-Start Melky in RF
-Bench Abreu
-Call up Shelly Duncan who's got a hot bat in AAA
-Start Duncan in RF..he's young, bring energy and has to prove things to others...he's hungry
-DFA or trade Luis Vicaino
-Call up Chris Britton
-DFA or trade Mike Meyers
-Call up Sean Henn
-Explain to Joe Torre that his starting 5 needs to go at least 6 Innings unless they got nothing in the tank.
-Explain to Mr. Torre that he needs to let his pitchers work out of jams...guys like Bruney, Andy, Wang...all sould be allowed to work out of jams.
Once the Rockets joins the Yanks...the Starting 5 should be:
Wang, Pettitte, Clemens, Moose, Clippard
Once Hughes comes back:
Wang, Pettitte, Clemens, Moose, Hughes
If none of these things work out.....
-Fire Joe Torre...he's been here maybe 2 years too long
