Scary things we all should worry about in the twenty first century.

Bush's still running our country. He keeps vetoing stem cell research.

They are trying to overthrow Roe vs. Wade.

Chaney with a gun.

The fact that we are the target of terrorists and there are many living right in our own neighborhoods. It was to easy for them to get on that New Jersey base.

Neither we nor our pets are safe, food and apparently anything else coming out of China is hazardous to our health, the latest was toothpaste.

In a way the media decides what we should worry about, by pouring it down our throats, but we chose to what extent we will worry.

I'm going to watch Jay Leno now, this is too depressing.

Wow, I haven't really thought about it like that. The media definitly decides what we are afraid of. I'm not sure what will be the next big thing though, maybe Gordon Brown will surprise us all and introduce something else to add to your list.

Generally these things are not "decided" on but are conditions that need to be dealt with in some manner, and many of these are of still some concern whether or not they're in the "public light".

Do not agree with your analogy that "EVERYONE" was scared of Communism in the 1960s - we were more scared of thermo-nuclear war - triggered by the Americans.

i think we are told to be afraid of being un pc, everyone is being persicuted for speaking their minds if it offends anyone. i think it is bs.. freedom of speech, where did that go? the ability to tell a joke without being deleted or getting stoned thrown at you, why do you people do that to us? i want to make people laugh. but the people who want to take everything so personally should be put in a box so no one will hurt their feelings. i can laugh at my weaknesses. yes i am fat so what? i am nearsighted. i am four-eyes. i had braces and was a railmouth. so what? get over yourselves and learn to TAKE A JOKE!!!!!!!!!!

i think people taking themselves too seriously is a major problem.

I prefer to start with the 50's as this is really the beginning of all of our troubles (seems that way anyhow!)These aren't neccessarily scary or scary to us as a whole.e.g. the immigration problem is scary to the immigrants, but they are issues that definitely gave us worries.

50's Atomic Bomb/Rock and Roll music & Elvis Presley/Communism
60's Cuban Missile Crisis/4 long haired rock and roll musicians from Liverpool/hippies/blacks having civil rights/Pollution
70's Hippies with even longer hair/growing drug problem/Women and Gays having liberation/Abortion/Nuclear Arms Race/Iran hostage crisis/Watergate/Punk Rockers/Recession/Demon Possession (thanx to The Excorcist)/Kent State Shootings
80's More Punk Rockers/Nuclear Arms Race/Recession/Rappers/Madonna/Cocaine/Government Corruption/Steroid use in Sports/Serial Killers
90's Pat Boone CD of Metallica (scary!!)/Woodstock Riots/Religious Cults/Oklahoma City Bombing/White Supremist Groups aka Nazis or Skinheads/Rodney King beating by cops/OJ Simpson found NOT GUILTY!/Herpes/Slaughter of millions in RowandaMore Serial KillersBombing of Abortion Clinics
00's WTC attack (of course)/Florida vote in Bush/Gore election/War in Iraq/skyrocketing gas prices/Corruption of Ohio vote in Bush 2004 election/THE PATRIOT ACT!!/Immigration Reform/Category 5 Hurricanes/Growing Inflation/Corruption on Internet eg. Phishing,Information Theft.

Who decides? I'll bet you want someone to mention the media. I blame the media for making BS like Paris Hiltons jail term a #1 lead in story. It's people and their greed, impulses and all of those Deadly Sins and hell bent on tarnishing the Golden Rule is who I blame. A lot of these things we bring on ourselves.
