The dishes are clean - but there is water about 1/2 inch- inch deep at the bottom!

Most dishwashers have a screen in the bottom to catch larger pieces of debris to prevent clogging the drain line. Look near the bottom of the column for the wands. It should be easily removeable to empty.

Well it should be damp after use. But water in the bottom? No way! Don't believe the hype and that's what all that mess is. Prime the pump? That's why the unit is hooked up to your water pipe and why the pipe has pressure on it so that when you turn it on you've got all the water you need. No, it's not draining properly. I would call someone to come out and look at it. In the meantime, if you're talking about A LOT of water I wouldn't use it until it was fixed. Good Luck!!!

Clean out the drain in the bottom

Check your disposal, I believe they share the same pipe.

it isn't fully draining, you will probably need to call an appliance person :)
