There are many reasons to believe that this is true. But it is not a done deal. China still has many problems that are unresolved - resources, infrastructure, and especially the skyrocketing disparity between rich and poor. And, India is also looming on the horizon as a world power. There is a really interesting and fundamental difference between the ways India and China are developing, and it is far too soon to be certain which model will serve better in the 21st century.
It is very discouraging how the USA almost seems to be determined to commit national suicide with its refusal to address energy issues and its insistence on military force as the answer to all its problems. However, the USA is very resilient. It has a huge resource of infrastructure, financial capital, biological capital in its huge forests and farmlands, business skills and a highly educated and motivated workforce. So I wouldnt totally count out the USA yet. Perhaps the 21st century will be the century of no particular single country.

I do not believe China has the resources to be able to dominate the 21st century. They still struggle to develop new independent technology and environmental stability. And with the one-child policy, they will have difficulties maintaining any respectable quality of life; the decreased younger generation will be too busy carrying the social welfare burden of their elders. If any nation other than the United States is to dominate the 21st century, I believe it will be India, with its cutting-edge development and vast human resources. The main challenge there is dealing with poverty, and once that is handled satisfactorily, the nation will be free to take off.

complicated question. nicely the human beings's Republic of China is Taiwan's good call. The theory that Taiwan replaced into constantly area of China isn't precisely real, somewhat the 1st significant chinese language settlement seems to this component to the sixteenth century dutch importing workers from China. There might have been a connection as quickly as in the third dynasty hundreds of years in the past, yet whilst so as that connection replaced into lost for a pair millennium.

China is indeed venturing out into the world as a powerful trading power, India is advancing, the West is on a decline. But, the 21st century belongs to Islam.

This a political caucus question. One can say whatever to please the greatest number of voters. In the end nobody will be there at the end of the 21-st century to crown the victor. If smb. feels he can make a projection for the next (almost) 100 years why not try the hand for the next 10, next 1, or even better for the next lottery draw?

Can't fully say, as we are uncertain what China may or may not do. They could have their thunder stolen by India
