My windscreen wipers make a really annoying squeaking noise when they are in use and it drives me mad! They were only replaced about 6 months ago so they can't need replacing. Any ideas how to stop this noise?

May be some wax or grease on the screen or wipers. Do you use Wax Wash on the car? Try polishing the glass with a proper glass cleaner, and clean the rubbers with undiluted screen wash. Don't put silicone anywhere near them. It will give you no end of trouble; same with rain-x, when it works it's fine, but most of the time it's a b***** nuisance, and almost mpossible to clean off. It's possible that the blades are not meeting the screen at the proper angle. As they sweep across the glass the blade should trail backwards. (Think about pulling/pushing a broom) If they are trying to push with the edge leading they will be noisy

There are a couple possibilities.

If you use them a lot (like if you're addicted to using the auto window cleaner, or if you live in an area that gets a lot of rain throughout the year), they could be in need of changing again. Good thing they're pretty cheap.

If they aren't installed properly, they won't be laying against the glass properly, causing them to be worn down before their time. You may need new ones, and make sure you get them replaced by someone who knows what they're doing.

Check to make sure the wipers are free from debris.I once had this happen, and when I took a closer look, there was a very small twig lodged in there, so the wiper wasn't reaching the windshield (and therefore was not even reaching the water), and the twig was dragging against the windshield, making an annoying scratching noise.

Time to replace your wiper blades that simple. The quality of the rubberised wiper do differ with cost and brand. Alternatively, apply a coat of chemical onto your windscreen to stay clear during rain without the need to operate the wiper

Hi; I have to say first of all, 6 months is about average for a set of wiper blades to last. Secondly, try wiping the rubber blade part with rubbing alcohol. Use a cotton pad or cotton balls. This might take off a glazed coating some blades get after being used for a while. In any event, considering the cost for new ones, you might want to get them if none of these suggestions work for you. Good Luck

They may need cleaned. If you windscreen has had oil on if from spray coming from wet roads, the wipers can lift the oil from the windscreen but sometimes it says on the wiper blade. Try running a damp cloth down each blade and clean the windscreen at the same time... it might help... I had the same problem and it worked for me.

Even though you changed your wipers 6 months ago they can wear down quickly. I found this on Youtube when I was looking at how to change a tire, quite useful. Loads of videos you can put on your ipod for when you are in the car and need a tutorial.

If it is the blades use washer fluid on a rag and wipe the blades thoroughly, then pour some soda like coka cola on a wet window, it will remove any road salts or other residue on the window! If it still makes noise after that, remove the vented cover to access the motor, lube the crank with heavy grease.

Wipe some vinegar on the blades, that will clean them and stop the squeaking.
