Yes, if you choose not to have that however, the doctor may recommend that you have the AFP testing (which is strictly a blood drawn test), to detect any abnormalities without invasive testing. Good luck and congrats! :) I believe that you still have the right to refuse any testing.

Yes, it's optional. I opted not to go through with it, as I don't fall into any of the risk categories that would give one reason to go through with it. Here is who they would recommend to do it: 35 years and older, history of genetic disorder in the family, previous high-risk pregnancies.
