I was watching MSNBC yesterday - which is very rare - and saw a commercial promoting an interview with Al Gore they were going to show later on in the day. Typical interview promotion - different camera angles and sound bites, and a breif list of his accomlishments - in which they actually credited him with PREDICTING Global Warming.

I don't care what your view is about global warming - that's not what this question is about. But what warrants a news outlet to make such a bizare and erroneous statement? Is it now commonly accepted that because Gore made a documentary that he predicted something that many claim has been going on for decades?? Did he predict Global Warming before or after he invented the internet??

We're in too much of a gray area here. What EXACTLY did this ad claim? Did they say, "He predicted Global Warming" or was it, "He's predicted the future castrophic effects of global warming"? It wouldn't just be bizarre and erroneous for an advertisement to simply say Gore predicted Global Warming, it would be fundamentally incorrect, for as we all know (including MSNBC, I'm pretty sure) both the term and the concept existed long before Al Gore entered into the dialogue.

Now if the ad said something more like the second statement, they'd be correct, for as we all know, Gore's made statements regarding the possible eventual consequences of global warming. (And time will tell whether he's right.) It's like me predicting that in twenty years we'll have ultra high-definition television. I don't claim to have invented the technology, nor am I the first person to make this prediction; I'm just making an educated estimation. If an MSNBC ad quoted me as making this prediction, they wouldn't be wrong.

He didn't predict it he is only trying to get peoples attention and be aware of what to expect....he had a very good interview on CNN with Larry King....there is no reason to bash someone that is only trying to help out with the research that most people can not do..he also never claimed to invent the Internet...it sure beats the type of people that go along with Bushes idea that global warming does not exist...likd head in sand thinking...duh

Since HE hasn't claimed that he predicted global warming, I don't think you really have to worry about the timing ;-) As for MSNBC - they're just trying to get viewers and make a few bucks - no big news there.

To put it as simply as I can, He did not predict Global warming, but merely helped to spread the word. However, it is possible that his professor may have predicted global warming...

He deserves high marks for raising global awareness of the problem. Give credit where it is due. Don't let politics obsure sound thinking.

Just my view!

If his personal "carbon footprint" wasn't as large as a Walmart store, I would give him some credit. As it is, I don't.
