Read my answer - it's important.

I've been in college for years and years. I'm a PhD candidate, so I'm going as far as one can go in college.

Even though I've been in college for a very long time, I'm truly not tired of it. You learn new and different things each year, so it really isn't the same thing every year.

If you enjoy learning and want to be a dermatologist, go right on ahead! Don't let a number of years intimidate you (or the other answers).

Good luck!

I thought that back in HS when I considered becoming either a veterinarian or an archaeologist. I thought it meant I'd be in college for the rest of my life and felt a lot of pressure to get some degree and get into the workforce.

Yeah, well, 2 AS, 1 BA and 2 MA's later, I ended up changing my career goals 3 times because I was either in jobs that were too stressful or that I hated. I ended up in college for way over what I would have put in to become either a vet or an arch and I've never been entirely happy with any occupation I took up.

If you like the concept of being a dermatologist (and I'd find out if you could shadow one for a day and ask him/her some questions about their career before you know for sure), then do yourself a BIG favor. Go to school for 11 years and enjoy your career for the rest of your life. Just think, once you get out, you still have 35-40 years to work at it. Considered like that, 11 years is nothing.

Of course it is a long time, but it is not really 11 years of college. Yes, you spend four years as an undergraduate student, and then four years as a medical student, but after that you are, in fact, a physician, even though you need further training as a specialist. At that point, at least, you are paid, even if not the full amount that a specialist would be. Also, you are going to get 11 years older anyway. What better way to spend those years than learning to do something you really want to do, rather than slaving away at a job you don't enjoy anyway?

Well, since your additional comments are "College *expletive*" I'd assume that you may want to choose a different career path since you seem to loathe going to school.

My hubby is in his 11th year of school - 1 AA, 1 BA, 2 MA, and now ABD on his Ph.D. He seems to think this is worth it, because he is in a field that he enjoys, and loves the academic environment.

If you hate college, and hate what you are studying, then why are you doing this? Even once you are a dermatologist, you will have to endure Continuing Education requirements, which means you will ALWAYS be going back for lectures and classes. Becoming a doctor of any sorts means that you will never actually be done with your education.

before you go... learn to spell it correctly. (college)

Collage (From the French: coller, to stick) is regarded as a work of visual arts made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole. Use of this technique made its dramatic appearance among oil paintings in the early 20th century as an art form of groundbreaking novelty.

An artistic collage work may include newspaper clippings, ribbons, bits of colored or hand-made papers, portions of other artwork, photographs, and such, glued to a solid support or canvas. An innovative collage technique that eliminates liquid adhesives from the collage assembly process was developed by Jonathan Talbot, who creates multi-dimensional collage-constructions.

"Alot of people go to college for 7 years."

"Yeah, they're called Doctors."

That's alot of college, but the pay off at the end is awesome. Lets see, so you have 4 years of under-grad, 4 years of Medical, and I'm guessing 3 years of Specializing?
