In a best-of-5 series of games, the first side to win 3 games( i.e. more that half) wins the series. in a series of games between the Flames and the Ducks, assume that for each game, P( Flames win)= 60%. Calculate the prbability that the Flames will win a
(a) best-of-3 (b) best-of-5 (c) best-of-7
Estimate the probability that the Flames will win a (d) best-of-9
(e) best-of-99

Answer 1

After one game:
1-0 Flames 60%
1-0 Ducks 40%

After two games:
2-0 Flames 36%
2-0 Ducks 16%
1-1 Even 48%

After three games:
Flames .36 + (.6*.48) = 54.8%
Ducks .16 + (.4 * .48) = 35.2%

Use a spreadsheet to figure the rest.
