We can only hope not. There is no need for this system draining social program.

The whole medical system needs to be fixed before we can afford a universal health care system. There are a lot of issues that would keep that from happening. If we solve them, then maybe we could make it happen. The issues that I come up with are the legal malpractice industry, the pharmaceutical industry, the administration problems of the insurance industry, and the issue of when does medical help go too far.
Beyond that is the issue of the abuse of the system by the user who goes to emergency for a splinter. Medicare/Medicaid is not working. Universal health program will not either unless we identify and then solve the issues.

If you live close enough to the Canadian border to run your own un-scientific survey, try asking people who admit patients into hospitals and clinics along the US/Canadian border what percentage of their patients are Kanooks who could have gotten free health services if they had been healthy enough to wait a year or two for their appointment.

Free health care doesn't work, not because it is not a good idea, but because it is impossible to keep people from abusing the free services.

Everybody who has a mole thinks its cancer. Every cough might be TB. Everyone gets more convinced of how sick they are when it doesn't cost anything to find out they are wrong.

It does, however, cost the people who are told by their doctors that they might really have something that needs to be looked at by a specialist and have tests run on it. If they can't afford to go to the US and pay for those services, it is usually their last expense.

I think the best hope is coop health care along with our current system, those who wish to stay in the current system of dealing with the insurance companies can continue to do so and those who want to be in a coop system can do that. I believe it will need a citizen oversight committee to make sure it is run correctly and not be handled by politicians, the money you pay into social security and medicare can fund it plus a small monthly payment. We currently pay in enough to fund a health care system but they spend it on foreign wars so that will have to change. This coop health care system will be able to negotiate prices on a grand scale and offer to help medical students go to school for time working in the system and it should be able to pay doctors competively as long as waste is kept in control. Of course if you join you should not be able to sue the system, we couldn't afford to absorb those cost.

I hope not. Higher taxes and long waiting periods for surgery....no thank you. And, I do not want the government to know my medical conditions.

A solution to the healthcare crisis would be for people to stop buying $150 shoes and purchase a high deductible catastrophic health plan.

Stop allowing prescription companies to advertise on TV and leave the medical decisions to the individual and their doctor. Prescriptions mark up can be as much as 4000%.

Make those that don't have insurance pay a portion of their bill instead of writing all of it off.

Why so we can pay more for taxes and promote the lazy part of socioty to do absolutly nothing. Get a job go to work than you can get health care.It is that simple.

Not as long as there are "ultra conservative" freaks out there. We are the only country in the civilized world without free health care for its citizens. Why is that, and why must we Americans put up with such nonsense? I am totally sick of the way business in general is operated these days! I go to Mickey D's and place my order and they immediately want their money first before actually giving the order to the cook! Every business these days assumes everybody is a crook. Well, I am not and I feel offended!

Gosh I hope not that would mean the quality of our health care would really suck.

Not as long as every congressman can expect a 2 million dollar, (pseudo) job from the pharmaceutical companies and Sick Maintenance Organizations (SMO's) when he leaves congress.
