I went to Perkins late Sunday nite for dinner. Around 10:30pm. I was in the middle of eating my dinner when the cashier came up to my table and asked me if I would like to pay my bill. Apparently she wanted to close out the register. I gave her my credit card and told her that I also wanted a slice of pie to take home. She rang me up and brought me the receipt. Once I finished my dinner, I approached the counter and asked her where my pie was. She appear shocked that I hadn't rec'd it and proceeded to tell me that it wasn't her job to bring me the pie, it was my server's job. I was about to loose my mind. I informed her that she didn't need to explain what a service position was and since when is it the cashier's job to collect my bill before I was 1/2 way done with my dinner and since she felt the need to close me out, she should have brought me the pie. I have never had such an experience in a restaurant. Even someplace like Perkins.

My reply to Jenni is that it was the only place open at 10:30 on a Sunday night. It is NEVER acceptable to interupt someone in the middle of their dinner to collect the bill. I've worked in the restaurant business and it's everyone's job to ensure that the customer has a pleasant experience. Perhaps, Aunt Tater is a cashier. And a bitter one, at that.

You call the manager and then write a letter to corporate headquarters. No matter the restaurant, they are in the service business. I am a big letter writer re: service and recently recived a note from the CEO of Mercedes. They listen.

E-mail the district manager AND their headquarters and ask for a reply . Tell them what a jerk the cashier was . So what if she`s working for minimum wage ? That`s HER problem and not yours . If she`s unhappy let her go back to school in order to get a better job , as many others have done .

I`d tell Perkins you`re not ever going back there , and you`ll tell all your friends not to go there either , unless they like being insulted . It`s not much , but being a franchise , the head office may take a dim view of what they let the "help" get away with there .

I`ve e-mailed places like McDonald`s and A&W about rude and incompetent service but have never received a reply (I wonder why?) .

I've worked many restaurants where people seem to sit drinking coffee right up and after closing time most places allow this but they aren't gonna make there employees sit there an hour or two while people sip coffee hours after they ate. So they do approach them to pay the bill and tell the they may stay the bus boys will be cleaning and the owner or manager is in the back doing paper work. They allow them to drink coffee if they choose, usually they just want to talk

I have two opinions on this one
1). Sunday night, cashier wants to ring out her till. OK, not the best strategy in the world, but I will accept it.
2). To have someone employed by the restaurant tell me its not their job, I would have been livid.
I can usually take take a series of goofs by the staff, but being disrepectful I dont tolarate at all.
Write a letter to the General Manager with a CC to the corporate office, if people do not air concern over legitimate complaints, service will only further deteriorate.

I haven't had service THAT bad at Perkins, but it's always lackluster at best. (College town) I can understand where she wanted to finish her end of the job and get out of there, but really, how hard is it to dish up a piece of pie in a to-go box??? At best she should have told the server if it wasn't "her job". Definitely let the manager know. If he doesn't care, go higher up in the chain. That service was horrid, and you do have a right to rant!

hi,
8 yr server here.......

first of all NO ONE should ever walk up to you for cash in the middle of your meal.

I work at a corporate owned chain, we close at 10 pm. if someone comes in at 9:59 they get the same service everyone else gets.

yeah........ I won't lie it sucks when people come in that late
but they do...... just remember not to sit for hours on end, tell the server you realize they are closing and that you would like to just eat and go, that your not going to hang around.

I have had people hang for 2 to 3 hours after closing. it gets annoying 2 hours after you close, and I am still smiling about how great it is to wait on them. LOL.

anyway, you should be ticked off. I would complain to corporate. it is EVERYONES JOB to insure customer satisfaction.

and ps......... most servers tip out the host staff
so you should have let the server know too.
if it were me....... I would have brought it to my managers attention, you would have gotten a refund and the host would not have been tipped out by me that night.

i agree that it is very poor service. having been a waitress before, i believe that it is VERY poor service to rush a customer out in the middle of dinner, now if the customer has finished dinner completely and it just sitting and chatting, then i would politely ask if they were ready to pay the bill. but no, its not good service, ive never had service like that at perkins before. i like perkins, but that service was unacceptable.

Your first mistake was going to a Perkins. That place is kind of a low class very casual almost diner type place, what did you expect? You can't expect a bunch of 16 year old kids to treat your pie order like it's life or death when they're prolly getting paid around $6.50 an hour. I'm not saying it's right that they give bad service, I'm just saying it's wierd to expect more from a bunch of kids

If I were you I would call up and ask for the manager and complain. She should NEVER have asked you in the first place. Honestly, had this been a waitstaff member in the restaurant I would of fired her immediately. that is ridiculous.

I'VE NEVER BEEN TO PERKINS. IF YOU HAVE BAD SERVICE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO COMPLAIN. THE CASHIER SHOULDN'T HAVE PUT THE BLAME ON SOMEONE ELSE SINCE SHE'S THE ONE WHO CAME UP TO YOU, SHE SHOULD HAVE TOLD YOUR SERVER. IF SHE DID TELL THE SERVER AND THE SERVER FORGOT SHE SHOULD HAVE JUST SAID I'M SORRY. BAD SERVICE IS EVERYWHERE!
