I read in the paper that Nicole Richie had a Memorial Day party and send out an e-vite that said "No girls over 100 pounds. There will be a scale at the door." Even if that was a joke, it's ridiculous!
It seems like everyone is at one extreme or the other. Completely unconcerned and unhealthy about their weight or over concerned and anorexic.
We should go back to the Marilyn Monroe days when bigger was the beautiful ideal.

Yes! and don't go "ooo it's the media's fault" that's the excuse for everything - the media also is saying every one is too thin now. The problem is girls start worrying about their weight when they are too young, there are hundreds of questions on here about 13 or 14 year olds asking about diet plans. It's not right, yes the media does have something to do with it, but you can't BLAME them people don't have to take notice of everything.

Now more than ever, there is pressure to be small...and what was small in the past is large today...size 8 was considered normally small in my mother's day...when I was growing up it was size 4...now it is size 0! yes I said zero!
I feel so sorry for my daughter...I am tiny and we are tiny people but it is terrible to have to even live in this kind of a world...and she will have to start wrinkle care almost from day one...it is all so sad

Being overly concerned with one's weight (or height, or skin color, or how good looking their face is, etc) doesn't come from the media telling us what we're supposed to look like. It comes from insecurity, and the media just takes advantage of that insecurity to sell stuff. Insecurity is learned and it can be unlearned. Try to get people to focus less on weight is just treating a symptom, not getting to the root of the problem. Make changes to yourself, but do it because you think YOU will like it, not because someone else will like it. It sounds warm & fuzzy and cliche, but the first person who has to be happy with you is you. Which is easier, pleasing one person (you) or pleasing everyone else? That's what girls (and boys) need to be taught.

YES! I hate that they feel that way. I've never been overweight, so I guess it's hard for me to relate to their way of thinking, but I feel for them.
The problem is others, not the girls themselves.
If you don't have something nice to say about someone, say nothing at all!
