In all the productions I've seen. The narrator usually sits or walks around and that's okay because she is the narrator. When you're not singing you should look at the story going on behind you.

To avoid the sore throat you should be singing in your head voice. The role is for a soprano, so use your throat sparingly. You should work on supporting yourself more. Hum up and down your register before you sing.

Congratulations on getting the Narrator, that's an amazing part!

First of all, make sure you're warming up your voice properly. You should be doing about 20 minutes of vocal exercises before you sing your songs.

As for how you stand, you're a story teller. Walk around a bit. Tell the story to your audience. You can even interact with the characters on stage some... the director should be giving you blocking, but if he or she isn't giving you much to work with, just go with your first instinct. The narrator is basically making the story of Joseph come to life for the audience. You are the one that make the magic happen! The director will either like what you do or reign you in. If for some reason the director wants you stationary for longer than you are comfortable with, you can always make eye contact with audience members and 'tell' them the story. Keep the sparkle in your eyes use your hands. Keep your stance comfortable as well. Don't feel like you should be 'locked' in, because you shouldn't.

Break a leg!
