Why does my wireless laptop connect to my Router but can't connecnt to the internet?

Question

I put a netgear wireless card in my laptop & it worked fine at first, but I went on a trip & came back & now it will only connent to the router & not the internet. My other laptop connects fine wirelessly. I am sure Im on my network, & I've tried re-setting the routers, & I tried inserting the IP manually. Any instructions on how to resolve this would be much appreciated.

ping your router

start run type
cmd
then type
ping ?.?.?.?
?.?.?.? = is your router ip of course.

if your router does reply,

then try pinging www.yahoo.com

if you don't get a reply from yahoo,

try pinging 209.191.93.52 (thats yahoo too)
if your get a reply, dns is not set correctly
(if your typing in your ip numbers, make sure that in tcp/ip settings, you have your router ip in your preferred dns server and 4.2.2.2 in the other)


if you don't get a reply
I'd suppose it would be a firewall of some sort on your computer.

if not, you could try reinstalling your network card.

Could be a number of things...

Are you actually on the wireless network? Did you configure security on the new card?

Double check your IP settings, could be an invalid mask or gateway.

Your lap puter is not recognizing your router, check your laptops wireless connections and set it back to your router, look in wireless connections and make sure your wireless card is being recognized by the puter
