Gee not sure of any thing in the '80's but I do remember a singer named Johnny Ray that sang the song "Cry" back in the 1940's, I was popular then. Part of the song went " If your sweetheart sends a letter of goodbye, it's no secret you'll feel better if you cry. While waking from a bad dream that you some how think is real , but it's only false emotion that you feel" and so on
