my daughter has inherited quite alot of jewellery which she doesn't want to keep. what would be the best way to sell it, apart from ebay and how can we get an idea of what typr of gold it is?????

They are called Hallmarks.

Don't sell it on e bay! Go to a number of older more established jewellers and get about three valuations. You'll then get a feel for what it is worth-if you're talking mega money then try something like the Sotheby's website and speak to an expert.

I would enter each symbol into www.google.com and see what the results you receive.

If it were say 14K. Enter that number and K.
