Is there something wrong with giving the poor of our nation a helping hand? Is it less offensive for a company like Halliburton to blantantly rip the American tax payer off with insane "cost-plus" policies?

Actually, the whining is more coming from people who "feel" the government should be giving more money to people as charity.

My argument remains the same - show me where in the Constitution the federal government was given authority to do so. Which article or what amendment gives the power to spend the peoples' monies on charity?

I'm talking law here, the Rule of Law, of constitutionality.

James Madison, the Father of the Constitution, said, quite succinctly, "Charity is no part of the legislative duty of the government." And, unless the Constitution was amended, then any charitable spending by the federal government - whether welfare, medicare, social security, disability, housing, etc, etc - is clearly unConstitutional.

War is a legitimate function of the federal government. Charity is not. Oh, and I hate to break it to you, but 94.7% of Halliburton's current contracts were won in an open and competitive bidding process. They're not "ripping us off", they are providing a necessary service to the government.

I would say.....That depends on the type of Conservitive you are. Like liberals. Conservitives have little things that they are more passionate about. Sme liberals support Save the whales, and some conservitives.Like myself. Are what you say. Fiscal conservitives. I dont support such things as Social welfare,Iraq war funding, Foriegn aid,and just about every other tax and spend policy. Heres an idea.......Those that think the poor(lazy0 in this country deserve everythin given to them. Let them pay for it. Those who want to fund the Iraq war.Let them pay for it. The same with all these other lame brain let the working people pay for ideas.Including the taxpayer finaced Global warming croud. Let them pay for it. No.......That wouldnt work now would it? It would sure leave a lot more of MY money that I earned.......MINE

Because welfare spending is as offensive as Halliburton!! And all the 'billions' going to Iraq doesn't go to Halliburton, thats a different route. At least those in Iraq deserve the money because they are doing something to earn it!

I haven't heard many people complain about welfare very much, except that we don't want illegal aliens to get it through their anchor babies. I agree that we have wasted hundreds of billions of dollars in Iraq, but answer me this - When we have such a low unemployment rate, and there are over 10 million illegal aliens working in our country, why can't an American find a job? Is it because they refuse to work at what they consider demeaning and low-paying jobs?

Because anybody who is on welfare here is just plain 'lazy', mooching off the system, and wasting our tax dollars (if you believe the prevailing logic) whereas this money is much better spent on an ill-conceived, half-hearted crazy scheme of creating a bloody democracy in the middle east. But heaven forbid every American gets healthcare - THAT'S TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE AND TOO COSTLY!

I deplore waste in all forms of government, welfare and the billions squandered in Iraq and other countries.

I don't have a problem with people on welfare that truly need a hand. But when you have generations of families on welfare, then you have gone overboard. They are out there and need to be rooted out. What you don't understand about Iraq is that it is an investment for this nation and we will be rewarded in the long run on the world stage. You will never get any thanks out of the welfare people who will just keep wanting more and more and more. Bad investment.

I even have been offended over Iraq for it sluggish, yet I even have been stricken by potential of the further trouble of what could incorporate a precipitous withdrawal. we've a tiger by potential of the tail, and we could desire to get a muzzle on it earlier we enable bypass, or it is going to turn and consume us alive. It became into the incorrect conflict on the incorrect place on the incorrect time. we could desire to continuously have finished the interest in Afghanistan earlier we took on the "Saddam issue." whether, it somewhat is what it somewhat is. we will not basically pull out, whether it hurts like hell to video exhibit the persevered destruction and the soreness our youthful women and adult men human beings are coping with as they lose buddies or their independence to annoying injuries. It hurts to purpose to convenience the neighbor whose son became into killed. i don't desire our brave infantrymen to proceed to die. i desire an go out technique, not "throw good money after undesirable" continuation of the triumphing "technique." we are able to could desire to proceed with the 12.5 billion money in step with month for a whilst, yet a PLAN to shrink that quantity and the accompanying destruction is needed and basic to cleansing up the mess we are presently in.

The greatest fiscal problem facing this country is the Social Security crisis. I read where if the money spent in Iraq were used to help solve this problem that Social Security would be funded for the next 70 years. Seems like that would have been a more efficient use of our tax dollars, doesn't it?

There's nothing wrong with giving - it's the taking that I have a problem with.

And who said I had no problem with the spending in Iraq? I have a lot of problems with it. We could have done Iraq on the cheap - the old fashioned way - with BOMBS.
