it is not an interference engine (wont hit the valves) the labor to fix it it 4.5 hours
check the water pump and idler pulleys when doing the belt
this is basically a Toyota great car
i am an ase tech dont listen to the people who talk about breaking pistions or valves on this car check the owners manuel on replacement times i think 80000 miles is a good time on this car as the dealer i think recomends 90000
but dont quote me on the milage

the lexus has a no tolerance engine which means that valves and pistons work in such a close manner that if one does not move out of the other ones way (valves/pistons) they will collide with each other causeing the pistons to bend or break the valves so it is best to have the timeing belt changed every 60,000 miles usually what the owners guide recomends to avoid a much more costley mechanic bill

It is possible that the pistons will slap the open valves. This HAS been known to be considered "Big Damage" as the result is cracked pistons and bent valves. Do yourself a favor, change the belt every 60,000 miles. Its cheaper than an engine.

It is NOT an interference engine, so it will quit running, with no damage to the engine.!!
