I have a 1992 Toyota Tercel. When I went to get a shoulder replaced because it was oxidized, They told me that I would soon have to replace this flexible pipe that connects to my muffler. Yesterday, I started to hear that the exhaust (vroom vroom) sounds way louder than it should and I'm almost positive that its that pipe. its probably the size of a meter ruler and its flexible. The owner I bought the car from must have put it there to muffle the sound a bit and then sell it. Well, long story short, I think i need to replace that pipe and i think it is the first little pipe that is directly under the clutch when i drive. Anyone know what that is called?

I've heard it commonly called either the front pipe if it's the one from the head pipe out of the manifold to the muffler, or the manifold pipe itself in USA

Sounds like a flex pipe to me, like you said, the previous owner probably put it there, what is suppose to be there is a solid curved pipe (doesnt have a specific name).

it sounds like you are describing the flex pipe. it's there from the factory to reduce vibration in the exhaust system. your local muffler shop should have them in stock...
