He can go behind the bars according to the Indian Penal Code, 1860 section 309 whoever attempts to commit
Suicide and does any act towards the commission of such offence, shall
Be punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to
One year 1or with fine, or with both. Since the maximum punishment is of one year the time limitation for his prosecution is within one year from the date of this offence or its knowledge to the police or his being identified who committed this offence. This information I have purposely given other wise you'll be asking the time limitation for his prosecution in your next question.

A person who attempts to commit suicide is liable to be punished under Indian Law. Revealing his act shall construed extra-judicial confession which may be sufficient material ,( if brught before Court of law) to put him behind bars.

If he had committed suicide in previous life and it was revealed in public, and he still agreed to be reborn in this lifetime, then he should be proclaimed as saint and given all rights thereof unless the Indian Constitution does not allow.

Attempting suicide is punishable under indian constitution if evidence is found.
