I left an abusive husband who refused to allow me to work. I went on Welfair for 2&1/2 years. My then 5 year old son fell down the stairs of our second floor apt. His little head hit the wall and he was knocked out. We took him to the hospital. He had a concussion. There was this older man there who very loudly made a statement about "Lazy people on welfair " getting free health care! (I was going to Jr. College) I told that man that if he would give me his address I would gladly repay what ever he felt I owed him for the hospital saving my baby's life as sonn as I got a job! Of course he would not give me his address!

Yes, I knew this man and yes he said he was a republican! Yes, the abusive husband voted republican! Ford was president at that time, and I voted for him! Be honest! Republicans do not like people getting any kind of state-aid for no matter how short of a time! I hear it all of the time! You know that is true! I am not grouping anyone! I paid back my grant! I became a working tax payer again!

To the lady who asked why I was on welfair for 2&1/2 years I went back to school and got more education so that I could have a better paying job. I had two children to take care of!
to the man who asked if I had ever voted, Yes! I have voted sense I was old enough to vote!I will always vote!
To the man who said that a Liberal woman called him a baby killer. If any one can say I'm sorry for another I am.I am sorry that she said that to you! That was uncalled for!
I still say that I hear every day and I read everyday right here about Republican not liking help for the poor and needy! You all know that is the truth! I am not full of hate. I have friends who still vote Republican!

In a way, it's irrelevant whether this man was actually a Republican. He believed that people on aid were lazy parasites, and he freely expressed his hate. These are attitudes which are commonly held by today's Republicans. I agree, it's mean spirited, and I would add, it's heartless and un-Christian too.

Im sure that it does sadden you that your opinion of conservitives is that they are mean spirited......That is what the liberal media tells you to think. Im also not sure if you are someone who is able to think for yourself? Or are you just caught up in the media frenzy. That makes you feel sory for yourself and the position in life that you are in. Lets strat from the beginning. (1) Who married an abusive husband? There is weakness right there. You allowed someone else to control you. Once you left this relationship. You had a choice then to go to work. You chose welfare. Not just temporaily, but for 2 1/2 years!!!! (2) It is not a good thing that your child fell down the stairs.....The question is. Where were you when a small child was playing by the stairs? All that being put into context....Rebublicans are not mean spirited at all. All they are trying to point out. Is that people need to look in the mirror, and ask."Am I the one who has put me in this position?" Perhaps by the choices I have made in life? So The moral of it is. Be responsible for the choices that you make. Dont ask others to pay up for them....

We have had this two party system for a long time, and one is no better than the other. It has always been to vote for the person and not the party, sometimes we forget that is the best way to vote. Regretfully you feel the way you do, and you have had a tough time, I wish you well, and at least your child got help.
When a universal healthcare program is in place and we have solved the issue of illegal aliens in this country, I suspect you and others would never have this problem again, to include myself. Take care.

I fought for my country in the US Marines. I was wounded three times. A Liberal woman very loudly called me a baby killer and a Nazi. So I guess ALL liberals think this way. Or is it that people say what they feel and do not necessarily speak for everyone in their political group. So what would you say? Don't judge all Republicans because one man said something and I won't judge all Democrats because some woman said something.
and I hope your kid is OK
Semper Fi!!!

There are plenty of mean-spirited "liberals" too - it isn't just conservatives, its HUMANS. Some people protested at Jerry Falwell's funeral. I didn't love Jerry Falwell, but protesting at someone's funeral is crossing a line of taste and decorum that just shouldn't be crossed - let him rest in peace - his time is over anyway. The good news is that there are more good people than bad ones, which is why the mean spirited ones stand out - you don't see them as often because there aren't as many of them.

Wow must be nice to have the system pay for everything while you go to school.
I work full time...go to school full time...have a 7 year old and I still have to pay my own insurance and all my tuition and fees out of pocket.
Maybe I should quit my job and go on welfare....seems to be a lot easier.
EDIT TO ADD---
I truly am sorry about your POS x husband...but welfare people get no sympathy from me.
I know people who live better than I do while they are sitting on welfare and here I am (like a dumbass) doing things right and pulling my own weight.

My first question is, why were you on welfare for 2.5 years? Obviously though that guy's comment was very out of line.

So you think just because you think he's a republican that all republicans are the same? Was your abusive husband a republican? If not, does that mean all Democrats are abusive toward their wives?
