Hi.

My periods are very irregular. My last one was 4 weeks ago and I had to wait nearly nine months for it to appear!!

Both my last period and this period are extremely heavy. I am having to use the heaviest absorbancy tampons and also 2 sanitary towels and am changing on average every hour sometimes less!!

The funny thing is I don't have any cramps but as soon as I move it I need to go and change.

At the moment I feel ok but if it carries on then it won't be long before I am feeling wiped out!

I have been to see my GP about my irregular periods lots of times because of them being so far and few between but all she says is that I can go on the pill but that is not an option as it makes me really nasty and also we want to try for another baby soon.

Does anyone else suffer from heavy periods?

yes i use to to suffer ---i use to ware 2 pads and a tampon and i would gush through that----heavy is considered to be a bag of pads within 24 hours---my situation was different--i had uterine tumors--you need to stay on top of it with the obgyn---but yes--- try the birth control first--or try for another child and put up with the bleeding until you have conceived

If you've had a heavy period today, chances are it will not be as heavy tomorrow. the first day is always the heaviest. So your pads should last for two hours or more. If it gets to a point where you think "i have to change" then tell your teachers. If it is an emergency, then ask to go. they cant just let you sit there like that. anyway, the point is not to worry. you could try and get pads tomorrow morning? or get tampons and wear a pad as well. this usually worked for me. If heavy periods are a regular occurence for you, you might want to see your GP or doctor to see if anything can be done about it. Don't worry, you'll be fine. EDIT: or just use it as an excuse for a nice day off school :)

That's sounds exactly like mine always were. You might get checked for ENDOMETRIOSIS. That was the cause of mine. If you are trying to have a family do stay on top of this problem. Endometriosis does cause infertility because of the nature of the disease. I had several corrective surgeries and was on the pill 6 mo's was off 2 weeks, using the basil thermometer method got Pregnant in 2 weeks. But never again. Our second child is adopted. GOOGLE it and learn the symptoms.

I saw someone mentioned having the D & C to help the bleeding. I had three some were pain free and improved the bleeding but others were horrible and didn't help at all. So I have no good input for them.

You are definitely having HEAVY periods. It would be good for you to take a Multi vitamin, a B Complex and an iron pill daily.
Heavy bleeders become anemic very easily.

Going on the pill made me nasty too, but it will make your period regular, and you need that if you are trying to conceive.
That worked for me. (The male hormones make us mean)

Good Luck.

Yes, I do. Yours sound excessively heavy, perhaps your GP could recommend you for a D&C if you have to go so much longer again?

Have you tried Evening Primrose oil capsules? They helped me, I'm only slightly psychotic for 2 days in the month, as opposed to outright homocidal for 3 days ... you know yourself that this is no exaggeration, right?

You could also look into alternative therapies, like Chinese medicine. I had problems in that area before and saw a practicioner of Chinese medicine who gave me acupuncture and some very good dietary advice, which helped enormously.

Best of luck with this.

ya i suffered from very heavy periods, similar to you. very irregular and no cramps and usually lasted for over a week. you may not want to go on the pill for personal choices and i respect that but the doctor put me on the pill and i could not believe how much it helped, regular as clockwork and extremely light. i recommended listening to your doctor and going on the pill.

No, but yours sound very odd indeed. I believe there is an operation which can cauterise the lining of the womb to make it bleed much less, I don't know what it's called but maybe you could suggest it to your doctor? Or ask about it?
